take a peak under at the exhaust crossover. If the R/T is anything like the 5.9 4x4's then you're necking it down to about 1.75" for the cross-over. I'd start with that.

Where to begin? How much $$$ ya got?

GSMotorsports.com
KRCPerformance.com
SocalDakota.com
Dakota-Durango.com

With a '98... I'd expect high mileage already. Do a compression check before doin' anything else.

First off: PPH headers, 3" Catco cat, 40 series Flowmaster 3" x 2 c 2.5" pipes out, F&B 50mm TB, MSD-6AL, MSD Blaster or Accel E-Supercoil (45KV) Autolite 3923 plugs (.040 gap of .054 w/MSD) MSD or Magnegore wires, Accel brass cap & rotor. You really wanna begin this? This R/T ain't just a truck... it's a cult. Check out the Dakota R/T Club and Dakota R/T on Delphi. It's a sickness... a religion almost. I'm runnin' GSM headers, 3" Catco cats to X-pipe into Spintech true duals (side exhaust) It's inthe shop now gettin' a KRC 210Xcam. R/T heads, M1 intake, F&B 52mm TB 'n a lotta bling. This is the milder version of the cam the 210: http://mywebpages.comcast.net/seanmca79/210.mp3
The R/T ain't no hay wagon.

Aside from the compression check... Check out the main bearings for wear before you put any extra load on 'em. Stock bottom ends are pretty tuff... but it won't hurt to check 'em. Oh... You may need a Mopar Performance PCM to raise the shift point and eliminate the rev limiter and top speed limiter.

Yea, Right now we're just looking to do somthing about the power curve, Seems like these trucks (ive rode in a few) Have a flat spot a little higher in the revs. Keeping it simple for now, Headers, Exhaust, CAI (Your basic ricer mods ), Then in a while we'll start looking in to more heavy mods. Thanks for you help!

flat spot in high revs is the airflow issue - it can't move enough. open up the exhaust. my ram with a 360 seems to scream compared to my dakota.

Yep... air in gas out... in the fastest possible manner. A K&N FIPK system will work wonders. Very easy mod.
