well i raced my friend today and he had a 99 chevy stock and i have my 99 dodge that got whooped is there anything i can do wihtout spending thousands of dollars to make my truck have more power and to be able to beat him
(they are basically the same except the chevy has alot more power)
he has a 5.3l and makes 275-285hp and i have a 5.2l and get 235-245hp? i didnt know .1L made that much of a diff
can you guys tell me whats going on here?

I'm not sure but it shouldn't be that hard to get 40 more horsepower. I think there are some chips you can get. Headers usually add between 35 and 45 horsepower, but I'm not sure how much they cost.
What kind of trucks do you have? Like cab, wheelbase, bed, and drivetrain. If you've got a Quad Cab 4X4 and he's got a Regular Cab 2X4 he's got the advantage.

i have a ext cab 4x4 and he has a ext cab 4x4 both are 1/2ton (1500s) both completly stock (as far as i know of mine i got it only a few weeks ago)
so they are esentially the same truck but his makes more hp with just .1L more
is it just the way the engine is setup or is the chevy engine really just a better engine
Woah! Don't do that to yourself! Chevy doesn't have a better engine, I believe the 5.3L is in the next level of engines than the 5.2. I garuntee you that you can make it wax that Chevy for not a lot of money.

It's not how fast you get there, it's how you look getting there...LOL, dodge all the way. Chevy makes good trucks but I've heard recently that the later versions of vortec motors are suffering from piston slap... oops. Never heard a Dodge w/piston slap!! Actually, I've never heard of any major mechanical failures on a dodge motor (on the 3 boards that I visit)... they just wear out after 300 or is that 400K miles!!
I hate to be supporting the chevy in this issue but I don't think the 5.2 will smoke the chevy in any way with just bolt on inexpensive mods. You may be able to read the license plate though LOL.
I used to spend way too much time at the drag strip racing for the club and was involved in several truck shoot outs. The chevy's and fords dominated.
Stock for stock the 5.3 chevy and 5.4 ford are in a different league than the 5.2 dodge and the trucks are lighter. So more power, more torque, and lighter trucks is a receipt for a whoopin. You may even look into the gear ratio if you want more speed. My ford was running 3.55's and the most of the chevy's ran 3.73's. The ford produced more torque down low so the higher ratio was ok. My hemi is running 3.92's and when I ran it against my ford it was dang close until 60 and I mean dang close. Too close, way too close, dang ford!!! Did I mention it was close.

I've raced Ford 5.4's in my 4.7 and it was dang close. I KILL Ford's 5.4 and Chevy's 6.0 in the HEMI, it's almost a waste of gas to race them, I just do it because I don't want them driving off thinking they beat me.
