Default Tow Package

Sir\Ma'am
I have a 04 durango st, with no tow package. I am in the military and travel every four years. I need a tow package. Wondering what I should expect to pay for this, or should I try and do it myself.

PS: Dont know *()_ about the mechanic part of vehicles.

Default RE: Tow Package

I doubt if you would be able to get the factory tow package at the dealership. They could piece it together but it would be cost prohibitive. The good news is you can go almost anywhere and have a Reese Hitch and wiring installed. Truck performance shops, Uhaul stores, Sears, the Dodge dealership can also do it. JC Whitney is a good place to buy a hitch and wiring harness if you are a do it yourselfer. If you plan to tow anywhere close to the max tow capacity of your vehicle you might want to add a tranny cooler. As far as cost I would think you should be able to pick up a good quality hitch for under 125 beans + $35 for a trailer light harness. Figure a couple hours of labor @ $50/hr. If you are anywhere under $260 total you didn't get hurt to bad. For my money I am a complete do it yourselfer. Most hitches sold bolt right up to the frame holes the OEM put in the frame for factory hitch options. At the most you only have to drill a few holes, the bolts supplied will be self tapping or have nuts. The better wiring harnesses now don't even need to be spliced into the taillight circuits. You just disconnect the plug going to the taillights and put the harness plug in series. I would even trust my brother to install one on my truck and thats saying a lot.

I had mine installed at the dealer (I know they probably would have ripped me off but they did it for free cause of a mistake when they shipped the truck). The invoice was $375. I know you can buy one for much less, but thats how much you could expect to pay at a Dodge dealer. Hope that helps.
