Default Window Tinting

[&:] I would like to match the tint on the rear windows to the front two windows. How much am I looking at to spend on matching the tint percentage on my 2000 Durango 4x4?

Most states that allow tinting on the front drivers and passanger side windows will only allow a 35% tint. It looks good but isn't near as dark as the factory tint on the back windows.

Yeah but as long as you know somebody, I would say get 20%. I put 20% all the way around my truck. In the back there is no visibility from the outside in but looking from the inside out is fine. With the 20% over the factory tint you would think that it would be a difference in the darkness of the front and back but it is very clean looking and the same "darkness". But like I said, make sure you know someone who will pass your truck cuz if you don't you will be kicking your own ass as you are scraping the tint off. Good Luck.

Where are you? A lot of southern states have passed laws where you can have your tint as dark as you want it. I'm a sheriff deputy, mine are 5% all the way around, with a 35% covering the front window from top to bottom, then a 5% eight inch sun strip over that. Check your local window tinter, they'll know. They will still probably tint it if it's illegal. Cash only, no receipt.
Here's mine.

I am in NC. It is illegal to have anything darker than 35%. I didn't wanna go darker than 20% cuz it is difficult to see out at night. Plus, with 20% blocking all visibility in I didnt see the reason to make it harder to see out.

Here in Texas, they do not allow the front windows to be darker than 35 percent either. But no one is really enforcing it unless the cops want ya really badly! haha. Texas State Troopers have a tint sensor thingymachig that can measure the percentage of tint you are using and ticket ya on the spot if it is darker than 35 percent on the front windows. I had my factory windows measured and the percentage is near 20 percent. So I chanced it and matched my front windows with 20 percent tint to match the oem tint. Plus my Durango is black so everything really blends in. So far, most law enforcement won't look at the tint too much on 20 percent, but they can get ya if you're using 5 percent on front windows. Best to just keep both front windows rolled down if you get pulled over so they won't make you pull the tint off!

I just had to have my front windows stripped and retinted because it wouldn't pass inspection. That was the only reason it wouldn't!! I am in Fort Worth and was told they did a big crack down on anything over 35% and the gov was issuing the inspection sites tickets. I thought he was full of crap until I went to a second place (the same place that passed it last year) and they said the same thing.

Ouch! I guess I have been lucking out. Just had my 04 inspection last October and I know I have 20 percent tint at the front windows and they did not say anything. Maybe because it blended with the rest of the Durango? But I guess if they noticed the front windows have 5 percent, they problaby won't pass ya.
