I have a 2001 durango. The ball joints were recalled(finally) But they are charging a fee to have the front end aligned. Isnt that ridiculous? Anyway, If you know anyone who has had to pay this fee or are taking their durango in to get fixed, please have them call the number below and file a complaint. If enough complaints are filed they will refund the amount. Dodge is so CHEAP!!!
Thanks!

No it isn't. Dodge is giving you free balljoints. If you don't want them, then just keep the same one's you have and quit yapping

It is when you consider that replacing the ball joint and the alignment checked really go together. Dodge is just figuring that if the ball joint was bad it did affect the alignment.

They should pay for it, the reason it has to be done is because of the bad ball joints, so it should go together. It is already costing them a lot of money to fix the problem and adding an alignment is just more expensive, so they make you pays. Sounds like the world we live in.

This is the way I see it. Ive had 2 durangos, a 2000 and the one I have now which is a 2001. I lost like 3 grand on the trade in value of the 2000 for the 2001. The 2000 had 18,000 miles on it and only about 6-7 grand owing on it. Very clean inside and out. No dents, dings, scratches on outside. No burns, stains, or blemishes on the inside. The way I see it, they have cost me enough money already. Having to pay them to do a front end alignment is just s**t. This problem has existed since 99 and its not the consumers fault. They should be held fully responsible for the faulty parts they used. The faulty part is the reason the front wheels have to be taken off, which in turn messes the alignment up. This problem has been around a few years now and they were aware of it. I got my letter of the class action suit 2 years ago. Everyone at the recall center must of been coached to act stupid like they didnt know a thing about it. I understand its going to cost them boat loads to fix all the trucks, but maybe paying a little more attention when the problem first came about would of helped with that.
Im glad they are finally going to fix the problem, but im not happy at all having to pay them to fix something else that is a direct result of faulty parts.

Got mine done last week, no additional charges!!!! Look for a different dealer. Also paid out of pocket to have them done about 8 months ago (prior to the recall) and have now recieved my reimbursment check for some of that work. (I had them do upper and lower, cost $650 at the tire shop) just deposited my check for $250 from Diamler. I'm also going to try and write them each day until they come up with the $400 (difference) but I doubt I'll ever see it. Good luck.

Changing the ball joints DOES NOT CHANGE THE ALIGNMENT. We check it and SET TOE ONLY simply as a courtesy. We have ball joint recalls on many different vehicle other than the Durango as do most manufacterers, the Durango is the only line that gets the alignment checked.

It should be pointed out that we only set the toe, not a complete alignment, if you want an alignment then you will have to pay for it.

The dealer gave me a full alignment on my recall work..

Of course, that's because my drivers side tire fell off and they had to replace the half shaft and steering rack at the same time :)

We have a '98 Dodge Durango and replaced summer 2004 all upper and lower ball joints because we had a little play in them. Our truck has 100k miles on it. There was lots of talk about faulty ball joints then. Any recourse? I assume it was normal wear and tear....
