The Sky is a production car debut at Detroit with an unusual design background. It is based closely on the Vauxhall VX Lightning that came from Simon Cox’s advanced design studio in Coventry in 2003, which in turn was based on the platform of the 2002 Pontiac Solstice concept and the theme of the Opel Speedster (nee Vauxhall VX220).

Proportionally a classic small front engine sports car not dissimilar to the Mazda MX5, that the Sky most closely competes with. A lot of the attractive exterior is derived from the Lightning; the hood and rear deck that tip in from a sharp crease on the upper surface, the prominent horizontal shut lines running back to the door for the clam shell hood, and the ways the doors sit on a separate surface to the fenders.

But the Sky is not just derivative or wholly European in its design, the front lamps have a slightly soft shape, the rear lamps more bright work, and there is less surface tension than in its Vauxhall branded predecessors, such as around the leading edge of the door.

It may have had an unusual gestation, but the Sky is an attractive car that looks likely to be quite a success with a sub $20,000 price.

The styling on the front end of this car is sharp... thanks to the GM Europe brand of Vaxhaull. However it still seems werid to see this car as badged as a Saturn product. I am so use to them having great customer service and poor designing cars. Hopefully this car will save the lack of sales at their dealerships.

I hope GM is successfull. To prove to chrysler that the razor, copperhead, and slingshot all should have been given a chance.
The problem with chrysler is they provide show cars that do not have enough options. The Prowler should have had more options. Some people wanted more from the prowler. Like a V-8. So they came out with the howler show vehical. But I also thought a lower priced prowler would have been cool too. What if they were to make the prowler a 2dr hatchback, as seen at the SEMA show. Plus maybe offer a 2.4L and lower priced tire/rim combination. Like 15" rims with 50 series 215 front and 60 series 215 rear. To give it the hot rod sloping stance. Plus a manual transmission option. Wouldn't that make it affordable?
The razor (or copperhead) would have been nice with the show cars 2.4L turbo. But I think the car would have been nice with 1.6L, 2.0L and 2.4L engine options. Allowing people to choose an affordable cruiser with good fuel mileage 1.6L 5sp or a nice city cruiser 2.0L 4sp auto+5sp manual or something with a little more zip like the 2.4L auto & manual. Then the 2.4L turbo could be the limited production SRT.

I take a second look at this car and I actually do like. I just entered a contest to win it. You had to guess what company makes it. DUH If I win it though, I will probbaly sell it, for parts
