Default Engine missing

Hi Folks,
Have a 2004 dak quad with a 4.7. I love it and glad I got the 8. Anyway, I just started it and let it idle for a few minutes. I notice a little smoke coming out of the tail pipe so I reved the engine thinking it was water in there because I'd just washed it. When the rpms got around 3500 the engine started to miss and stopped again as soon as it dropped below 3500. I drove it and did not notice it happening while moving but once I stopped again and tried it in park it did it again (the smoke stopped though). Anybody have any ideas? The truck only has 8,000 miles.

I don't have an answer for you.

But when I read the subject line, I thought your engine was actually missing - as in not there anymore. I HAD to read that post...

If you got the engine wet, maybe some water through the air intake? Bad coil boot (coil on plug)? Other than that...dunno. Good luck.

Thanks for the replies and sorry about the missleading subject cbsaint...it made perfect sense when I typed it LOL. I'm taking the truck in for service this week and I will update when I find something out.

I have found that my '04 w/4.7 has a "rev" limiter in neutral at 4000rpm. You will also here it if you are accelerating above 4000rpm and let off, otherwise, the engine continues to rev to the redline.
