Is there an better way to turn-off check engine light than disconnecting battery?

I took my vehicle to the dealer and they manually turned it off.

No because I'm still under warranty which is nearly up. I know a co worker of mine..who drives a ford escort though...had a bad bulb in hers and it caused it to keep her engine light on. A sensor could be bad also. Has your vehicle been giving you any problems?

The truck hasn't given me any problems, but I just purchased it and the check engine light appeared shortly after I filled with gas. Thought it was loose gas cap but it's clicking tight.

If a check engine light appears due to a loose gas cap - does it "self heal" after the gas cap is tightenedd?

Truck is 98 Dak 5.2/5 speed.

I know on my truck I have a light, that has never come on yet, that'll come on if my gas cap is not on or tightened. Sounds to me something is triggering the sensor therefore giving you a false reading making your truck think there's something wrong when there really isn't.
