Chrysler Group to auction first 2006 Dodge Charger volume production vehicle to roll off assembly line and autographed race car body used in world reveal at the North American International Auto Show

Winning bidder to receive Charger keys from NASCAR legend Richard Petty at the May 7, 2005, NASCAR Nextel Cup Series race at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway

One-of-a-kind items to be auctioned on eBay, with proceeds going to Victory Junction Gang Camp and Salvation Army Charities

Auburn Hills, Mich., Jan 27, 2005 - Following the world introduction of the all-new 2006 Dodge Charger this month in Detroit, Chrysler Group is auctioning the NASCAR body shell used in the press reveal along with the first volume production Dodge Charger to roll off the line at its Brampton, Ont. (Canada) Assembly Plant.

"The King" Richard Petty, seven-time NASCAR Cup Series title winner and legendary Dodge Charger driver, will personally deliver the keys to the top bidder at the May 7, 2005, NASCAR Nextel Cup Series race at Darlington Raceway. The auction proceeds will benefit Victory Junction Gang Camp and the Salvation Army.

The mock race car shell is a replica of NASCAR Rookie-of-the-Year driver Kasey Kahne’s No. 9 Dodge Dealers/UAW Dodge Charger. The shell covered the production version of the all-new 2006 Dodge Charger as it was revealed to more than 3,500 international media in a press conference at the 2005 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS). Petty and Kahne took part in the introduction of the vehicle, representing the past and present of Dodge dominance in NASCAR racing. The NASCAR shell has been autographed by Petty, Kahne and Chrysler Group President and CEO Dr. Dieter Zetsche.

"The reveal of both the production Dodge Charger and Charger race car struck an emotional chord with NASCAR fans and Charger enthusiasts alike," said Zetsche. "In fact, during the first week following the press conference, the Dodge Web site received more than 300,000 ‘Charger hits’ and more than 50,000 handraisers requested more information on the car.

"We thought, what better way to support two worthy charitable organizations than by auctioning both items and offering the chance to meet the King himself, Richard Petty," said Zetsche.

Bidding will begin at http://www.eBay.com/charger on Feb. 1. Proceeds from the winning bid will be shared between Victory Junction Gang Camp and the Salvation Army. The auction will close on Feb. 11, 2005.

Victory Junction Gang Camp is a not-for-profit organization founded by actor Paul Newman and Kyle and Pattie Petty with the goal of enriching the lives of children with chronic or life-threatening illnesses.

Salvation Army, also a not-for-profit organization, is dedicated to caring for the poor, feeding the hungry and clothing the naked worldwide.

With an available 340-horsepower HEMI® engine powering large 18-inch wheels, the all-new 2006 Dodge Charger races into the car market later this year with bold, provocative styling and 21st century performance, safety and technology.

Richard Petty’s 36 NASCAR Cup Series victories in a Dodge Charger rank as more than any other Dodge Charger driver in history. Petty drove a Dodge Charger during three of his NASCAR driver championships (1972, 1974 and 1975).

And the bidding is over. Bids: 0. Price: $0.00 U.S Dollars. I would never buy a Charger, even though the 340 Hp is impressive.

You would never buy a charger, or you would never buy this current rendition of the charger?

If I'm gonna bid 55K on anything, it will meet one of 3 criteria; 1) the top goes down, 2) there's a Hemi under the hood, of the 426 variety, or 3) there's a big wing on the back and a nosecone on the front. Otherwise, I ain't interested..... especially in a Magnum sedan!!!!!

There was a guy that did that with a Superbird a few years back. Started with a Satellite convertible, added the nose and wing from a trashed Superbird, and cloned a one-of-none ragtop bird. Saw it at Carlisle way back when.... 10 years ago maybe???

2006 Dodge Charger Claims First Victory, Winning $75,100 in Charity Auction Benefiting Victory Junction Gang Camp and The Salvation Army

The bidding race for the first 2006 Dodge Charger volume production unit to roll off the assembly line and autographed race car body used in the world reveal has officially ended; winning bid is $75,100

Proceeds from the auction will be shared between Victory Junction Gang Camp and The Salvation Army

Winning bidder will receive Charger keys from NASCAR legend Richard Petty at the Dodge Charger 500 on May 7, 2005, at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway

Auburn Hills, Mich., Feb 14, 2005 - In the midst of Daytona Speedweeks, the all-new 2006 Dodge Charger took an early victory lap, winning $75,100 in an eBay charity auction. The auction for the first volume production 2006 Dodge Charger to roll off the assembly line and the race car body used in the world reveal closed Friday. Proceeds from the winning bid will be shared between Victory Junction Gang Camp and The Salvation Army.

The charity auction ran from Feb. 1–11, attracting 56 bidders. A total of 26,435 people visited the auction site.

"The overwhelming response to the auction is not surprising," said Dieter Zetsche, Chrysler Group President and CEO. "The auto show reveal of both the production Dodge Charger and the Charger race car struck an emotional chord with NASCAR fans and Charger enthusiasts alike."

The winning bidder of the auction also will receive a Charger Experience package that features airfare, accommodations and two tickets to the Dodge Charger 500 race in Darlington, South Carolina, on May 7 to receive their vehicle keys from NASCAR legend Richard Petty.

The mock race car shell is a replica of NASCAR Rookie-of-the-Year driver Kasey Kahne’s No. 9 Dodge Dealers/UAW Dodge Charger. The shell covered the production version of the all-new 2006 Dodge Charger as it was revealed to more than 3,500 international media in a press conference at the 2005 North American International Auto Show. Petty and Kahne took part in the introduction of the vehicle, representing the past and the present of Dodge dominance in NASCAR racing. The NASCAR shell has been autographed by Petty, Kahne and Zetsche.

Victory Junction Gang Camp is a not-for-profit organization founded by Paul Newman and Kyle and Pattie Petty. Auction proceeds will help the charity in its goal to enrich the lives of children with chronic or life-threatening illnesses.

The Salvation Army, also a not-for-profit organization, will utilize its share of the proceeds to help care for the poor, feed the hungry and clothe the naked worldwide.

Petty’s 36 NASCAR Cup Series victories in a Dodge Charger are more than any other Dodge Charger driver in history. Petty drove a Dodge Charger during three of his NASCAR driver championships (1972, 1974, 1975).

Production of the 2006 Dodge Charger SE, SXT and R/T models begins this spring at the Brampton Assembly Plan in Brampton, Ontario, Canada, with vehicles available in North American markets early this summer.
