Does anyone have a problem with your truck not being able to shift out of first. Ihave a 2000 R/T and when I stomp on it from a stand still the rpm's shoot up and wont shift to second when it needs to. It will just start cutting the truck off because of being in the red line and finally shift when you let off the gas. This really sucks when you try to race someone. </P>


Does anyone know what might cause this and maybe how to fix it?</P>

Sounds like a speed sensor.

Check vacuum lines also. Make sure all are properly connected.

You might need your transmission fluid changed, when was the last time you had that done? My Mustang won't go into 3rd gear so we are going to have the transmission fluid changed and they said hopefully that's the problem. Either that or there might be some gunk in the linkage, does it have trouble dropping into gears like Drive or Reverse? Not while driving, like when you are sitting and put it in reverse does it get stuck?

No, the problem only occurs when you start out. It only does it when you stomp on the gas and take off. It goes completely to the rpm red lines and starts cutting the truck off because of being in the red line. Then when you let off the gas just a little it's fine, which sucks because you don't want to have to slow down. Thats the only problem there is. I hadn't made it to the dealership yet but hopefully I can soon.

I had this same problem. I talked to a local transmission shop and they recommended resettting the pcm. There are a couple of places on the internet that wil tell you to remove the negative battery cable and turn the key to the start position and hold it for 15 seconds. This did not work for mine. After talking with the guys at Superchips about it, they told me to remove both of the battery cables and tape them together for abuot 3 minutes,... (none of this should ever touch either post on the battery. That could cause a major pcm problem) I qusetioned their theory on this, and the guy at Superchips said that it is the equivalent of rebooting your home computer. After some skepticism on my part, I finally tried it. It worked, and has never done it again.

The more computers they have, the stranger the solutions....
