hey guys just wondering if there was anything i could do to fix this or something to take care of it. I guess something flew up on the highway and left a small chip on my hood close to the grill. Its a little smaller then the head of a q-tip. I wash and wax my truck regularly and its starting to get a little surface rust and is annoying my because i know its there. Its not totally obvious but its enough to bother me especially since i dont want it to get worse. anything i can do to stop it/get rid/something?? its a black truck if that matters.. thanks

I would take and buy a small can or bottle of touchup paint from the dealer since they can have the color right. Take a small piece of2000 grit sand paperand scuff up a small area around the chip and the chip itself. Be carefull not to go hog wild. Take and mask off the area as good as possible andspray a little primer onto a plate or the cap and take a q-tip or something small and dab it onto the bare metaland let it dry. Then take the touch up paint and put in on in small coats. I'd do about 3-4 since touch up paint is thin. After it is all dry do a light light wet sanding and the buff the whole area and you should not see the chip anymore. This is what we do when we have small problems and trust me it is not as hard as it sounds. Just take your time. I hope it helps.
My uncle who was a military helicopter/tank mechanic says the best thing to stop rust dead in its tracks is to put naval jelly on it. He was, still is a mechanic, has been now for i guess 30 years or more.He has some pretty decent advice at times. just thought i would share it.
I know it sounds a bit weird but if you go to your local parts store and ask them for a bottle they will know what it is. I have personally used this stuff on vehicles, go karts, and farm equipment and i can tell you the crap really does stop the rust!
Take a superfine grit piece of sandpaper or fine steel wool just to take the rust off. Hit it with a dab of touch up paint. Unless you're real good or super anal and just hit it perfect, you'll always see the dab of paint, but it'll be protected and never rust and from a distance (5 ft. away or so) it'll blend in good enough...
