Default 2.7L engines

Hello,
I am looking to downsize from a v8 to a v6 and trying to do some research on what is the most reliable engine
On of my criteria of choosing a car is that it must have RWD and the other is gas mileage
So with that combination I came up with the Dodge Charger 2.7L
I understand that there was some oiling issues in the past with this engine and from what I understand this is no longer an issue on the 2.7L Chargers
The only concern I have is with the timing belt or chain
I heard some owneres changing the timing belt so I wanted to find out if anyone knows for sure what is in the 2.7L engines
Is it a timing belt or chain ?
Are all 2.7L the engines the same or some have chains and others belts ?
I am mostly interested in the 2005 and up 2.7L engines but any information would be greatly appreciated

Well, according to my own research I found that the 2.7L engines have a timing chain while the 3.5L have the timing belt

I think you'd do better with the 3.5 L V-6. It's been around for a long time in one form or another. People automatically think smaller is better when it comes to engines and gas mileage. Keep in mind that a smaller engine has to, in the long run, work harder to move the same car as a larger engine. I'd go with the 3.5. Also, keep in mind, that even the Hemi's get pretty good gas mileage when compared to even some small SUVs. So, smaller isn't always better.

If it wasn't for the timing belt I would have considered it
It's true that timing chain wear out also but not as often so just for reliability and maintenace standpoint I would choose the 2.7L over the 3.5.
As for the mileage I think the Charger with the 2.7L is the best compared with similar size cars and RWD
