Default transmission noise: slight,irregular ratcheting

My '94 Dakota SLT, 3.9, with 64K miles, tranny fluid and filter replaced 500 miles ago, but no bands adjustment, now has a couple worrysome noises.

1. Over 20 mph get slight, irregular but constantlow-pitch rattle in all gears and neutral. Got a diagnotic from shop tht no noise from drive train-read end, could be tires.

2. Now am hearing tiny, irregular ratcheting while at stop any gear. Disappears if selection lever moved a bit.

What's my next step, adjusting my bands and checking for broken bits inside?

checking for broken bits inside should have been done when you had the filter changed. I would take it to a indepentent tranny shop and they can drive it and most likely tell you what it is. I would suspect the planetary gear assembly.
