Default Ignition key doesn't work

Couple of hours ago I went to start my truck and couldn't turn the key. I tried everything I knew like gently moving the key in and out wiggling it around etc. but nothing. I called Chrysler roadside assistance and they sent a tow truck within 20 minutes. He put the key in and did the same thing I did then he hit the end of the key fob with his palm pretty hard a couple of times and got it to work. Drove it home and tried to restart it but nothing, I then did what he did and it worked. my truck has less than 7k miles on it. Wondered if this has been a problem for anyone else? Taking it to the dealership Monday.

I would make sure the shifter is really all the way in park. Also, if the wheel is locked turn the wheel a little and try to turn the key. Beyond that you have an issue.

Yeh, it was in park but the wheel would turn. It's under warranty but it's a pain to take it in arranging ride etc. Thanks

Do these trucks have a chip in the key? If so that could be part of your problem.

a key with no chip turns fine and will even get the engine to run for about 4 sec.
at least, that's how it is with my truck.

I am using my backup key now. Last time I tried it it worked fine. If it is a problem I can get it fixed under warranty. I don't like having to wait around or getting rides from other people.

If your spare key works fine then I would think that it is only the first key that has the issue and not the whole truck. Maybe the first key is not cut right?
