Default Dome light wiring question.

So I had some of the little 3 light LEDs laying around the house and decided to install them in my dome light, seeing as how everything in my truck's already blue.

Popped off the dome light, took it apart, cut the harrness off exposing the red and black wire. I thought it was simple enough, hook up the positive and negative to the LED positive/negative, and bam! Light? Nope.

Anyone have any ideas?

Default RE: Dome light wiring question.

What kind of LEDs?

If they are just plain LEDs then you can kiss those puppies goodbye. You have to put some resistance in series with LEDs to limit the current to them so they don't blow up. You also have to be careful of the polarity - if you hook them up backwards you can also blow them up.

Was your dome light turned on?

Can you measure 12V across the red and black?

Have you tried connecting them straight across the battery (heed warning above)?
