want to check out the speakers. is the door panel just held in by the phillips screw, the bolt in the handle, and a bunch of clips/tabs? so unscrew the two and start pulling? any specific spot i should start from? anything different in the front, or drivers door?
It looks simple enough, i just don't want to break something small because i was too stupid to ask first.
thanks guys
btw, i'm still trying to get a definate answer on if a head unit will work without the metra interface. ben d. seemed confident that it would, but crutchfield says that even if you give the speakers a preamp input, the amps won't get power and i'll be left with no head unit amp and no speaker amp. figure i open it up and take a look.

RE: inside door panel removal
you need to undo two screws at the bottom, remove the latch handle (plus the panel screw behind it) and the screw up top at the side view mirror part. once you do that just lift up on the panel, not out. it should pop out. don't pull too far. unhook your electronics first then you are clear.

ehhhh, i gotta talk to a few guys at work. I think what crutch is talking about is the remote turn on for teh amplifiier. if you don't hook that up to the factory amp then it won't turn on. just like when you hook up an aftermarket one.
idk what crutchfield is talking about. there is only one amplifier in that system. it's behind teh glovebox on most trucks. there's only a few cars that put amps on the speakers. and that was AUDI. and those suck to work on.

that's what I want to open up and check, if the amps are at the speakers or not. if they are, would running accessory power to each speaker do the trick?? if it's a single amp, do i just give that amp accessory power and preamp outputs?
