Looks like my Auburn grenaded again yesterday, so that's it with Auburn for me. I basically now have 3 options now. Go back to an open diff, get a fuill time Detroit locker, or get an electronic locker. The e-locker would be a nice option, but too expensive right now. I'm not really wanting to go back to an open diff, so that leaves the Detroit (also the recommendation of the shop I take my truck to). Any one run a Detroit locker on the street. The shop said that with the longer wheel base of the truck, they don't see any issues with it. They said it will make a ratcheting noise when I turn, but that is what it is supposed to do. What do you all think?

RE: Anyone running a Detroit locker on the street?
I though ARB made an air locker for the 9.25, but guess i'm wrong. So ya, there is no selectable locker for the 9.25.
The towing part is the only reason i'm thinking I might just go back to an open diff. I definetly tow and haul loads. In fact, that is about all the truck does anymore since it is not my dd. But I will still drive it in the bad parts of winter too and I prefer to have the added traction that you get with a LSD or locker. So I guess the choice comes down to whether I want it set up for a tow rig with some comprimise when on ice/snow, or set up good for winter snow/ice with some compromise towing. Since the truck is a 4x4, i'm thinking set it up for towing, and use the 4 wheels in the ice/snow.

When it locks, and you have a heavy load on it, that puts a lot more stress on the axle shaft when your dragging your tire around a turn. Just not an ideal setup for towing is all.

RE: Anyone running a Detroit locker on the street?
Time to get some Dana 60s under that thing silver. Selectable locker options (especially ARB, and OX lockers) are my main motivation for doing a 1 ton axel swap on my truck, considering I'll probably never put bigger than 37 inch tires on it in the days of 6 dollar a gallon gas. I'm sure the stockers could hold up to it but they just don't make any toys for the 9.25
In the mean time going back to an open differential is the inexpensive option. I don't think you'll have any problem getting around in the winter in 4x4 with your toyos on there. In the end the tires make a hell of alot more difference than a limited slip does.

Howcome you don't want to go with the Detroit True-Trac (LSD)? I thought lockers were meant pretty exclusive for offroading only?
I looked into this, apparently the Detroit (Eaton) True-Trac is not rated for anything over 32" tires. It appears that the Auburn is the only LSD/Posi that had a large tire rating, and that was up to 35". Since i've blown out two of them, i'm not putting in another one.
I think i'm going to go with an open diff.
