Default Problem with headlights

Hi all,

I have a 1995 Dakota Sport 4WD pickup. The headlights are not very bright to begin with because of the plastic lenses being in poor condition, but I also don't like the way the high/low beam switch functions. While inHIGH beam mode, power to the driving lights is cut (presumably by the dimmer switch), so the road ahead within 30 to 40 feet in front of my truck is quite dark. I would like to modify the headlight circuit so that the driving lights stay on when I switch the headlights to HIGH beam. The electrical diagram in my Haynes manual is not accurate because it represents an approximation of many year models, and I do not have the official factory diagrams. Can someone look up for me what wires I need to jumper in order to keep the driving lights on while in HIGH beam mode? Just for clarification, when I refer to "driving lights" I am talking about the smaller white lights that are mounted in the front bumber just under the headlights and front turn signal lights.

Thanks!

You can buy clear head lights from several places. LIke http://www.moparpartsamerica.com/par...?siteid=214583or ebay.com
You can do HID kits. Do a search there are good installation guides. here is a wire diagram for a 96 it should all be the same.
http://www.mitchell-auto.ru/UserFile...-dakota-wd.pdfOr get a sevace manual.A few posts down from this one has some online manual listed.

Crazy - Thanks for your reply! I ordered the factory electrical diagram from one of the links that you provided, and now I should be able to make the mod that I want.

Thanks again!

Easy and cheap way to help with the lens problem is got to WalMart (or parts store) and get a restore kit. It's a wet sanding kit with a sealer for the lenses. Works great, did it on mine.

jlbritt1 Thanks for the tip!

And just to let everyone know, I figured out an easy way to have me driving lights stay on when I switch to high beam. First off, although I was referring to them as "driving lights" they are actually the FOG lights according to the wiring diagram. There is a relay called"high beam relay"that feeds power to the fog lights through a normally-closed contact. When the Dimmer switch is in the "high beam" position, that relay gets energized, opening the contacts to the fog lights. That is the only function for that relay. So, I simply cut the wire that connects to the coil of the relay, and then it can never open the NC contacts to the fog lights. Problem solved!!!
