Default speed density

does speed density freak out with a cam? what about 1.7's?

In short, no. The issue you can run into with a cam is varying manifold vacuum or manifold vacuum that is less than 14 inHg at idle. Anything less than this and you will have driveability problems without having your PCM flashed. 1.7's don't affect idle because they don't change manifold vacuum at idle, they only change valve lift. It takes a change in duration to change manifold vacuum.

If all you are looking for is alittle extra power, 1.7's are much easier to install and require no software upgrades. If you are looking for the sound, you would have to have a different cam. There are options out there that do not require software upgrades. Check with KRC Performance to get an idea about what sort of cam you can use. They have a pretty good description of the requirements for all the cams that they sell.
