Default '99 Stratus speedometer not work

Hey guys,

My speedometer all of the sudden stopped working. The rpms are also extremely high even if I just barely touch the gas pedal. I was sitting idle trying to get home, and I can hear a clicking here and there. My check engine light just came on as well. I really haven't had many problems with it. It has 96,000 miles on it. I don't quite know how to explain this one, but the car also "jumps" a little every so often. I don't know if it just isn't shifting properly or not. Any help would be great. Thanks.

I'm thinking the tranny is in limp mode (stuck in second gear) ... unsure why the speedo would die at the same time though

Well, I went to AZ like you guys said. The codes are P0700 and P0731. Does anyone have any ideas on what they mean. I don't know much about cars, but here is what each one says.

P0731- The PCM has detected an incorrect gear ratio condition in 1st gear.

P0700- Transaxle control system fault. ECM received a signal that the transaxle control module has a fault.

Thanks guys.

I also just changed the tranny fluid/filter, but no luck there either.

We ended up replacing the output sensor, and it seems to work just fine. My speedometer works, and my tranny shifts again. I hope that's all it was. My check engine light hasn't came back on yet. We'll see what happens in a couple of days.
