I'm having a tough time understanding these Dodge performance trucks with a spoiler across the tailgate. I thought the idea of a pickup box was partly to, like, haul stuff that might just stick up above the box walls? :)

I love the wings on some trucks...Especially the srt-10....I want one on my truck but only when I get the hard cover for the truck.

Is it going to be four or two wheel drive? I hope its 2 wheel, thats the only thing that is stopping me from buying a rumble bee.

What does it really matter if it's 4x4 or not? I mean it's a simple turn of a switch to take it from RWD to 4x4.

I guess I just don't get this thing that DCX has about recycling their old performance names from the past and attaching them to vehicles that have absolutely nothing in common with the originals. IE- trucks.... Rumble Bee, then Hemi GTX, now Daytona? And don't even get me started on the new Not-a-Charger..........

i will go so far as to understand the rumble bee...even the daytona...because those somewhat fit...but the GTX? it makes NO sense to me...

Ummmmmmmm.... Weight and the fact that its a 4 x4. Extra junk to go wrong, when im not even going to use it.

wtf, if they're gonna make a daytona make it a damn daytona not some damn truck. :(

or at least make the truck fast. like the original rumblebees that shop was turning out before DCX was like 'oooh pretty' then made a ram with a hood scoop.

The Rumble Bee is available in both 2 wheel drive and 4 wheel drive!

From Pickuptruck.com:
The Ram Daytona will be available with either a 4x4 or 4x2 drivetrains and in regular cab or Quad Cab body style. The regular cab will have a molded side sill while the Quad Cab includes a running board. Only two colors will be offered: Go Mango, which is a burnt orange shown in our photos, or Silver Metallic. These colors will also accent the center bezel on the dash and highlight the instrument panel. Other interior features include premium cloth seating and Daytona monograms in the headrests and floor mats.

Included in the Daytona package will be the 5.7-liter Hemi engine, 5-speed automatic transmission and 3.92:1 rear axle ratio.

Ok...on Pickuptruck.com...the top of the screen says 2006 model year...the rest of the article says 2005...which one is it? I'd assume a 2005 since it looks like the current model, when it's suppose to be refreshened for the 2006 model year.

YOu are right, it doesn't make sense. They attach GTX to a V* vehicle. The original GTX was a V6.

Oddly enough, it was produced by Plymouth.

Plymouth introduced the GTX in 1967 with the Plymouth Belvedere GTX and it came with the "Super Commando 440" . In 1968 they added the 383 engine as an option as well as a hard top and a convertable model. The '69 model went through a redesign and the 440's 4 barrel carbs were replaced by 3 2 barrel carbs which raised the HP to 390. In 1970 the 440 was upgraded to the 440 +6. 1971 was the last year for the Plymouth GTX.

And I made a mistake, it never did come with a V6 I was thinking Buick GSX which I believe came with a V6.

The GTX was NEVER available with a 383. From '67 to '71, the last year it was a seperate model line (as identified by the VIN) the standard engine was always the 375hp 440 Super Commando. The only optional engine available from '67 to '69 was the 426 Hemi. In 1970 and '71, the 390hp 440+6, with 3-2bbl Holleys, became a third option. In '72-'74, the GTX became an option package in the Road Runner line. The 440 was the only engine available in the GTX option package. The GTX WAS available in '67 in a convertible, as well. I owned one, as well as a '69 convertible and a '71. The last GTX convertible available was in '69. '70 convertibles were Road Runners only.

Also, for the record, the Buick GSX was only available with a 455 V8. There was the standard 455, and the Stage 1 version was the only option. The GSX was available from '70- '72.

Cr@zy Squ33
01-10-2005, 05:44 PM
Yeah, they are. I could've sworn that it had a 383 as an option one year or several years. And every site I look at supports my belief that there was a 383, 318, 426 and a 440 available for the GTX from 1966-1971 or thereabouts.

The 440 Super Commando was the stadard though.

But who am I? I haven't owne d3 of them. ;)

Sorry if you took it the wrong way, Squ33...... didn't mean to come across with an attitude, or to make it seem like I had one. The GTX's have always been a particular favorite of mine, so I all I wanted to do was set the record straight. Basically, the 383 was the standard engine in the Superbee, and the Plymouth counterpart, the Roadrunner. Chrysler basically did it to give them an 'econo' musclecar priced below the higher line GTX and Coronet R/T. The Coronet R/T, like the GTX, was either a 440 or 426 from '67-'69. In '70, you could get a 440 six barrel as an additional drivetrain option. The Coronet R/T ceased to exist after 1970, though. The Superbee, and the Road Runner, in '68 & '69, were either 383's as standard equipment, or Hemi as an option. In mid '69 was when they brought out the 'M' code 440 six barrel cars with the lift off fiberglass hoods; those were the only '69's that you could get that engine in. In '70 and '71, the 440 six barrel became an available option in everything you could get a big-block in.

That's your musclecar trivia lesson for today. Once again, I apologize to both of you if I came across with an attitude..... was not my intention at all!

BTW, the ragtop is only a 440 Magnum. And after sharing your timeslip info with me, I'd have to concede before we even hit the strip. Both my cars are bone stock..... and Hemi or not, a Charger isn't gonna turn mid 12's in stock trim!

Best keep the second weekend of July open on your calendar, though. You need to get to Carlisle this year, given how close you are.

Its ok. I didn't go into specifics so it was kind of my fault. I was just listing engine sizes that it came with at any given time. I didn't feel like typing out each one in great detail. So, in a way it was my fault for being kind of vague.

It's a 2005 1/2. I'm guessing the 2006 refresh and/or the Mega cab will be revealed at the Chicago show, based on the pickup.com article.

What I'd like to see on these Dodge rams are fender Skirts. I had a 89 Ford Super cab long bed and it was lowered a little. When I got a set of Fender skirts put on the truck my gas mileage went up about three mpg. Not bad for a tank. So what's Dodge waiting for.The fin on the back, a fancy hood ,and fender Skirts.

"Included in the Daytona package will be the 5.7-liter Hemi engine, 5-speed automatic transmission and 3.92:1 rear axle ratio."
I think Dodge needs to get with it a little. Use the 6.1 in this. They already have the 5.7 in most trucks as it is. Thats one of the things I don't like about the Rumble Bee, pretty much the same equipment as you can get on a regular Ram. If their gonna make a "special" Ram, than make it special already. At least they could up the power on the 5.7 if they use it.
I mean, I like the look of the truck, but do a little more with it than glue some sticker on it, change the paint, put a spoiler on it, and call it "special." (Hmm.. oddly reminds me of what ricers do)

I gave it a second look. I agree though that there should be some improvememnts to the engine. The original Rumble Bee was special. It was a 5.7L HEMI but it had 500HP with after market upgrades. Which the upgrades you could add yourself would be cheaper than the final Rumble Bee released by Dodge.

i agree the 6.1 would be more logical, its nice that they have it in 4x4,4x2 and 2door and 4 door unlike the rumble bee 2 door only. some of us with families like the extra room, still undecieded about the wing might have to omitt it and use a topper only. or both hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

LA West is near Ft. Wayne, Indiana, they are also Choo Choo Customs. The Boss 5.4 F150 is another one of their creations. Ive been to their facility when our race team bought an ASA car from them and their facility is top of the line. They have Ford paint 100-200 f-150s orange or yellow just for them. When I was there the new Ram just came out and was in their test room. They dont paint the trucks, they just paint the parts. Usually the kits also include interior upgrades, and a new muffler. Thats about it, they dont venture in any engine mods because they would be responsable for the warrenty not Dodge. But to me, they are way overpriced. www.lawest.com
