Default Big Problem? Maybe!

For some reason, (and my car is 100% stock) im hitting 17-20 psi. no boost controller either. it is rediculously loud now and my blow off is also really loud. the only thing that happened prior to this was me cutting my hood scoop, and one of the hoses on my occ came un zip tied some how and was disconnected. i drove for about 3 blocks until i figured out what had happened. Any help is much appreciated.

thats way too much boost for a stock setup to be hitting. you may spike close to 17 but not 20. just curious where your boost gauge is sitting when the car is off and when its idling. the boost gauges are known to go bad and thus give you a false reading. how do you mean loud? your surge valve is sounding louder than it normally used to???

Yeah I would be leaning more towards the fact that the boost gauge is broken. If your PCV valve hose is off the car would be making exceptionally loud "whooshing" noises as the vacuum is pushing through the end of the hose and not staying contained in the engine bay. The hose being off would also cause a very rough idle and strange throttle response. If the car is 100% stock there is no way you should even spike 17 really.

Well after the forum not letting me post last night, i found out some more things were wrong. i found that my Air hose connecting my turbo to air box was completely disconnected and the rubber connecting it was very brittle and had just degraded away. so i ordered a new cai, and put a coupler on the broken hose to see if that was the problem. it wasnt. my guage is still spiking 20, and the car is spuddering. after driving it short distances, the intake manifold cover is litterally hot enough to fry an egg on it. also, my turbo blade has a small rough spot when i spun it manually. im calling my dealer ship tommorow to see if i can get it in there. i think my turbo is shot?

well, if your still under warranty, might as well let the dealer fix it. granted you might be without your car for a bit.

They'd have to PROVE the catch can was causing the problem......

Yea good move going to the CAI. My air inlet hose became detached once and it split another time, which may have happened to yours. This will cause the spool and blow-off to get louder. Of course it will also be loud with the CAI but at least you aren't potentially damaging your engine by sucking in unfiltered air.

As for the sudden increase in boost check your hose connected to the wastegate. I drilled a tiny hole in mine so it will boost higher. After doing so it would spike at close to 20 PSI and hold around 16, though I've had it that way for awhile and have no problems with sputtering or anything else. After the PCM catches up, though, the spike PSI will taper off to around 17-18 PSI and hold around 15.

Good idea removing the OCC too. Dealerships will try to weasel their way out of obligating the warranty any way they can.
