Default Sad chevy owner story

So my dad, an unfortunate duramax owner, goes into the dodge dealership today to trade in for a cummins. His truck gets appraised on the chevy side. Its a multi brand dealership-we've bought from them for many years. Now keep in mind its an 07 ext cab 4x4 loaded up with the duracrap diesel which he paid mid 40's for less than a year ago, they were only gonna allow him 17k for trade in. He traded an 06 cummins in on this thing and he so regrets it- now he is screwed. They say the truck market is down and nobody wants big trucks due to fuel prices. What about people who have to have trucks that work construction? Don't really think a 4 cyl car would look good with a ladder rack on it, or pullin a trailer.

Does he have a new truck picked out to buy from this dealer? If not that is why the lowball number. If he is serious about a new vehicle with them then they'll probably put the crack pipe down and start dealing. If they won't some other dealer will. They really piss me off when they start that crap! And I usually let them know it in a very nice way.

I used to work there a few years ago and ive personally bought 13 vehicles( i know ridiculous) from them and hes bought a handful so they know us- we are friends with everyone there and they are kind enough to give us EP pricing all the time. I do so much business with them and give them so many referrals, you think they keep up the favors.

Multi line dealer = big corporation. Big corporation with negative sales or low profit margin = boss in everyones arse to make up the difference. Friendships and ethics sometimes go out the window when that happens.

I bought 4 vehicles from a Ford dealer, 2 Mercury Grand Maquis and 2 trucks all in a 6 year period. The last truck was a '04 6.0 and it is the reason I now own and drive a Dodge. Anyway, when it was apparent that the truck was a POS I gave them a chance to make it right with a new '06. They "couldn't do the deal" I layed out. I called BS and they stuck to their guns. I told em if they won't I'll get a Dodge. He didn't believe me and told me so. Well I drove on the lot with my new Dodge truck and the salesman says, "you didn't buy that did you"? I had to tell him, "Yup I did"!

Moral of the long story... Go shop elsewhere. Friends are friends, but business is business. If I can't do a deal that is good all the way around with a friend, I'd rather go play hardball with a stranger.

So I'm sure your dad would rather have a Cummins, but is an '07 Duramax really that bad? I know the early models had insufficient cooling, but that was fixed by '06. How often do you guys get new trucks? (I have zero room to talk btw)

Did he trade it in? My buddy, for some unknown reason, wants to buy a duramax. So depending on where and the price he's looking to get, he might be in. PM additional info.

The market on Diesel trucks is not down right now. They are selling like hotcakes on Craigslist.com. Use to you could never find a Dodge CTD because everyone held on to them til they were 10+ years old and hadhalf a millionmiles on them. Now a lot of people are selling them because they did not use them for towing or hauling and they can get by with a car and save some $$$ on fuel. The guys that haul and tow are loving it because now there are some used diesel trucks on the market at decent prices and they don't have half a million miles on them.

My suggestion is to tell the dealer where to stick his offer and sell it yourself. Maybe noone wants to buy their over priced $40,000 new vehicles with all of the EPA bullsh!t that get 13MPG, but the used diesel truck market is red hot right now.
