Default FNG with intake questions regarding DOHC AEM cold air on SOHC engine

Well, Ive owned 4 neons, three 95s and one 96, all SOHC and have never bolted anything onto one untill now. I ordered a SOHC AEMcold air intake from JCWhitney and it arrived today. With haste, I took the stock breather off and took the new one out of the box and bolted that bad rascal on. Well, low and behold there is this strange mounting bracket hanging off of it going to nowhere. Other than that, everything fit and seemed fine. I fired the car up and drove it around for a while and it runs better and sounds like its breathing fine. When I got home, I popped the hood and eyeballed it again. I then picked up the box and guess what, it was the DOHC setup. I called AEM and they said that the typical SOHC intake was a two piece while the DOHC was a one piece setup. I took the car back out and beat on it a little bit to see if it would code out or something strange, but its all good. SO, my question is.... has anybody else done this or know of someone that has and how did it work out? Any foreseeable problems?

as long as it fits in there it should be ok

note that the aem isnt a true cold air intake, but it is better then stock

scc magazine dyno'd one and claimed a 2 hp gain at the wheels

the only real cold air intakes are the now discontinued iceman (only one of the 3 real cai that is legal in ca, they can be bought used on the neon forums), the kirk cai, and the 3.0L and custom cai's

With it basically sitting behind the engine, I figured it wasnt a true cold air. Hell, I wold have to trunk my battery to really cold air it. Not that this is some big issue, but ill keep a posting on here of what happens, if anything. Thanks TOOSTUBBORN2FAIL.

... well, you can hack the battery tray up to get a 3" tube going past it. i did it. didnt cause any problems at all. it puts the filter between the radiator and the transmission. doesnt seem ideal but its better than something over the exhaust manifold

My battery tray is hit anyways. The metal clip was frozen solid and I needed to change out my battery. I just pushed the front of the battery tray down untill the plasitc broke enought to allow the metal clip to slide off of the battery. Maybe a fabbed battery tray out of some light guage non corrosive metal and a simple battery clamp would clear up enough room for a genuine cold air setup and it woldnt look cheaply done.

There is a guy that makes a new battery holder that you can install your battery behind the front bumper cover on the side where your charcole canister sits... just have to lenthen the vac lines and relocate the canister itself... but there only 40 bucks... it also will help you autocrossers and drag racers by redistributing the weight up front... the heavy transmission on the drivers your battery on the passenger...
