View Full Version : Mileage Max
zyklor 05-14-2008, 05:02 PM I'm sure everyone has seen the ad at the top of the page for Mileage Max by Edge Products. Does anyone have it? Does it work? Is the increased MPG, if any, worth the money? I average 100 miles a day (I have 92000 miles in less than 3 yrs)and with gas prices I'm looking for anything that might give me better fuel economy. I have a 05' V8 Quad Cab 4x4 and get 13.5 MPG on average. If anyone has any suggestions to get better MPG that doesn't cost too much, please let me know. My only Mod is a K&N Cold Air Intake. Thanx
luvmydak 05-14-2008, 06:54 PM Just like a Jet chip, as a performance/mileage enhancer, this makes a great paperweight. Don't waste your money. Also from what I see not available for Dakota anyway.
ericemery 05-14-2008, 07:28 PM LOL, the jet is a paperweight?
My G-tech pulled almost 20hp off a stage 1...
For better mileage... search man. There have been a hundred posts on this exact thing.
More power in theory will increase mileage, since the motor doesnt have to work as hard as "normal"...
Keep in mind, that if you use the right pedal more, it doesnt help the MPG...
sdsdsd 05-15-2008, 06:48 AM I too share the pain of 13.5ish mpg sucks! I drive it easy too. I came to the conclusion it's the 3:92 gears I drove another Dakota with a 3:55 I beleive and the rpms @ 60 mph were 800- 900 less on the 3:55 gears.
bkjtimp 05-15-2008, 07:55 AM But the 3:92 is much more lively to drive around town! And tow too. Buy a moped! lol
lghtngblt02 05-15-2008, 08:14 AM I have the 3:92s, my mileage avgs 18-22 depending on where I am at. It surely is lively though :D
Keep in mind, that if you use the right pedal more, it doesnt help the MPG...
Also if you always jam on the left one for everything, instead of anticipating a stop, ithurts too.
ericemery 05-15-2008, 11:58 AM I dont understand how these trucks can vary in MPG so much... I HAVE 3.92'S!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I get 19-22 every tank.
rick4dak 05-15-2008, 02:10 PM It does seem strange that there is such a wide range of mpg's. I've always gotten 17-21 mpg. My last tank with all city driving got 17.6, my last trip got 21.25. I've got a 4.7l auto 2005, Jet Stage 1with 3.55. I'm going to change to 3.92 to make pulling a 6,000 lb toy hauler easier. I bet my mpg will be awful while towing that trailer. I have to think the variable is the right foot.
With the crappy resale on Dodge trucks, I'll be keeping this one for a while.
zyklor 05-15-2008, 06:41 PM I would love to know how some can get as much as 22 MPG!! I have never done better than 15 MPG. Most of my 92000 miles is Highway. I'm not heavy on the gas or brake... Hell I changed my pads for the first time at about 85000 miles (cant say that for the crappy OE rotors). Icruise the highwaysat a consistent 65 - 70 MPH on average. I know if I slow down to 55 - 60 I could do better but no one drives that slow anymore and even if I do, I cant do better than 15 MPG.And I dont have to do 0 to 60 as fast as I canwhen the light turns green. I have even triedchanging brands of Gas and the type and brandof Oil... All I found outdoing that is Sunoco Gasis worse.. I get 12 MPG with Sunoco Gas... dont know why. And I never use my AC.. Last time I did I got11 MPG... This is sad for a truck this size.. My fathers 05'F-250 gets 11.5 MPG and thats with ladder racks and a full tool box adding weight.
ericemery 05-15-2008, 07:18 PM I dont know what to tell ya. maybe it is just an anomaly that the few of us that get this good of mileage do get it... I dont know.
zyklor 05-15-2008, 08:39 PM Well Ive searched and read up on several mods that help MPG. Based on what I have read, would you agree that my best bet for a low cost mod with best potential increase in MPG would be an Electric Fan and 180 stat? Considering I'm spending about $200+ a week on gas ($3.81/gallon for regtoday), I don't have much extra money for much of anything. With the way the economy is right now, I'm stuck... Truck isn't worth anything and selling it right now is next to impossible with the mileage and moving closer to work is not possible right now since selling a home in the current real-estatemarket without loosing money is also next to imposable. No matter what I do now, our current economy is murder on my wallet.. and I'm sure a lot of others are in the same boat. Thanx Bush, your doin a great job.....
I love my truck but it may be time to look at a Toyota Prius orother small carand parkin the truck.... :( or i can live out of my truck and stay at work all week.....
DD064x4QC 05-15-2008, 10:48 PM i went on a trip last weekend and did 75 on the interstate and got 18 mpg. if i do 70 i get 20 mpg. i even have a 4x4 QC. i think that if you put exhaust with the k&n filter it will help out. i also drive a 2001 neon thats an automatic paid 2000 for it and i'm getting 30-35 in the city and 40-43 on the highway.
rick4dak 05-16-2008, 07:09 AM ZYKLOR - If you're spending $200 a week on gas, maybe the best idea is a small car for most of your driving. We bought a used Corolla that gets 35 mpg. The car payment plus gas comes to about half of your gas bill per month. I'll keep my Dak but put most of our miles on the Corolla and when it wears out, get onother one.
bkjtimp 05-16-2008, 07:12 AM i'm getting 30-35 in the city and 40-43 on the highway.
That's hard to believe considering the EPA est mileilage is: EPA Econ CITY/HWY 27/33 mpg
Are you sure you calculations/speedometer are correct?
I've been getting 18-19 mpg almost every tank, with very little variability...i generally drive 65-70 on the highway, now, and don't do a ton of around town driving...keeps things really consistent.
i agree, though...not sure how we're all seeing so much variability in mpg...has to be that right foot.
ericemery 05-16-2008, 10:20 AM I would say that the 180 stat and fan are a great idea to help with MPG... for arounda hundred bucks you can add power and mileage...
but honestly, with a $200 gas bill a week... I would find a $1500 beater car. an older neon or something, and drive it till it falls apart.
I spend around100-150 a week on gas, but pepsi pays me back...
DD064x4QC 05-17-2008, 12:30 AM yeah, bkjtimp (http://www.dodgeforum.com/showProfile.asp?memid=41180)i'm really getting that gas mileage. IN MY NEON not my dakota. just filled up my big 12 gallon tank for 30 dollars and also drove over400 miles but when driving the cruise is set and take offs are none high rpm's.
ericemery 05-17-2008, 09:36 AM neons do get good mileage, but a newer neon will run you a summers worth of gas just to get it...
I think going with an older gen 1 would be the cheapest route. gen 1 neons and chevy cavaliers are super cheap with migh miles and still get around good... dont buy it to keep forever, but if you only pay 500 bucks for a car, it saves you 80 bucks a week in gas... it pays for its self quick.
and when it dies, take it in for scrap. you will get like 150 back for it.
