Computer Tune

hydrashocker -> Computer Tune (5/11/2008 1:39:27 PM)

Anyone know of a PCM tune that does not affect the trans?

I think I'm going to be looking into a custom flash.

The SuperChips tuner does nothing to the trans that I am aware of.

I run the SC with no problems. I like it.

Make sure that Hypertech is for your D and not just the RAM.

Good luck!

x2 Superchips baby!

What you are looking for is the SC Max Micro Tuner # 3715, they have been saving some $$ lately by including other vehicle tunes but just check because there are some newer/older models that are vehical specific out there still , some sites also suggest the Cortex and Flashpaq and they are not for us older guys, so do alittle checking  if purchasing used. Im sure you already know but make sure its not vinlocked as well if used.

I wonder what the differences are between the Hypertech III and their Max tuners?  I did a initial comparsion between them before I bought the HTIII and did not see any differences in features as far as for our 5.9 engines.  Just saw a big price difference between them.  I must assume their Max and Econ tuners are just modern replacements for the HTIII.  I don't think the newer models can squeeze anymore power or fuel savings vs the HTIII for our 5.9's.

Here is the direct link for all Hypertech products available for the 1st Durangos with a 5.2/5.9 engine.

I was hoping that the tuner can reprogram the shift points on our tranny but it is not avail.  I guess our 46fe tranny's are not programmable.  The only thing it can do is recalibrate the speedo to compensate for custom size tires.

I sent Hypertech a E-mail asking them the questions I have for the Max tuner on the 12th. So far I have not gottin anything back from them on it. I might have to call them?

Also I asked them if they were able to update them on the computer. I see that this option is avalible on other equiptment. I would be sweet if you could install upgrades that you do to your truck to get a better tune or a specific tune.

Does anyone have an upgradeable tuner out there that can shead some light?

That PDF looks nearly exactly as the same illustration they had for the RAM with the hypertech III tuner.  I'll see if I still have the PDF of it to compare.  I wonder if they still have the HTIII pdf of that?  I am almost sure it is the same, just they changed the tuner from HTIII to Max.

hydrashocker -> RE: Computer Tune (5/16/2008 6:18:39 AM)

I just found a page that said the Max Tuner is internet updateable. I think I'm joing to get the Max Tuner.

I really would like to get a custom tune at a shop here in town but I've looked and there is nothing. One of the best things about joing this way is I'll have a OB-ll reader because of the 1998 year. That will be nice!

The Superchips Max tuner delivers Performance Tune: 21HP and 19 ft/lbs torque and Hypertech Max tuner looks a lot better plus it is internet updateable. I wonder if you can access the core and play with the settings via computer?

I think I'm going to get the Hyper for the Hydra. It just sounds good! [:D]

Kensai -> RE: Computer Tune (5/16/2008 8:17:37 AM)

I am curious what is updatable on our 1st gen machines?  Only thing I can think of is possible bug updates? haha, uploading a bug to your D is not a good thing I suppose?

So far, I am happy with my hypertech III set on regular 87 octane.

hydrashocker -> RE: Computer Tune (5/16/2008 8:26:02 AM)

Not quite sure on the features than are updateable. But it sure would be fun if you could enter the programing. It comes with a USB to computer.

I'm hopeing for a program now or later that will run with them. This would be sweet!

Ya, a bug would suck but I think personal info on the D would be safe.....LOL

Kensai -> RE: Computer Tune (5/16/2008 8:47:15 AM)

I went to Truckaddons.com where I bought my HTIII.  It is still going for $288 vs their new Max tuner for $379 (not the e-con model) .

Wished I can get the max tuner model strictly to see if that unit can be hacked via PC!  I am sure one will be coming soon so you can save your PCM settings on the PC and then re-use the max tuner to retune it again from scratch on another D.

but for the most part, I like to find a program for the PC that can interpret and tweak the PCM settings.  Kinda like your own personal custom tuner.

If anyone knows if such a software exist, let me know.  I want to capture the PCM settings on a 5.9 SLT+ from a co-worker of mine that is getting this miracalously high fuel mpg at 18-21 mpg and apply those settings to my own D.

hydrashocker -> RE: Computer Tune (5/16/2008 9:16:59 AM)

18-21 on the same setup. Holy Crap Batman!!!!

I could only wish we could crack em with the PC. [8|]

I'm going to post a link to this thread in the PCM board and see if anyone can help out.

Kensai -> RE: Computer Tune (5/16/2008 9:43:57 AM)

yeah, his rig is basically the same as my R/T except for the cosmetics and a regular PCM vs my tweaked R/T version.  I rode with him in his alot and even notice his mpg overhead is showing 16-18 driving in town so up to 21 is definitely possible from his claims.

If I can get my D to get that kinda fuel mileage, I'll gladly give up my wife's jetta that I am driving now and get back into my D for daily driving.

I am sure there must be some setting in the PCM that is different from the rest of the D community with lousy gas mileage.  Once we find that answer, I think we may see alot of happy D owners driving their D again.

This solve can possibly apply to RAM's and dakotas with similar hardware as the Durangos.
