So i got a question for you guys.  I am in no way shape or form mechanically inclined so i know little about fixing up my ride, but i need some advice.  I drive an 01' dakota 2wd, with the 3.9 V6.  I have a flowmaster with dual exhaust but its not loud enough for me.  Dont get me wrong, it sounds good but i want to be able to atleast compete with my friends GMC.  I know i will never be able to match his V8 but i would like to know of anything i could do to make it sound a bit....u know meanier.  Any advice?

i have a glasspack on my truck too, but before i put it on i drove around with no muffler at all for a day. It's hardly louder than with a glasspack. if you're running pipes all the way to the back of the truck you could probably use a straight piece of pipe as a muffler-delete and it would be noticably louder than stock but only slightly louder than a glasspack. if you really want it to be legal, most of the big manufacturers (gibson, borla, etc) have sound ratings and clips on their websites

I run a Gibson cat-back on mine and sounds real good for a V6....I was hesitant about duallies on a 6 because I hate how they sounds but.....I actually like mine.....has a deep rumble at idle....THey only has dual straight rear exit but I modified to come out at the sides of the rear but tucked under a bit....looks much better....ill have to take a pic....

I heard that upgrading my muffler could make a difference.  the person i talked to suggested a bassani, which i know little about.  I also heard of gutting my cat because maine doesnt have an emissions law, a sticker wouldnt even be hard to get if you know the right people.  now keep in mind i still want it to sound like a truck, not a jet so i would rather not do anything to loud, just better than what i got.

I must say, I removed my muffler on the six for a day and I didn't like it. But recently I was driving through a snowbank... huge one in front of the house, the muffler got pulled of the clamp so straight pipe the whole way to a friends and I kind of enjoyed it. But thats a v8.

Yea glass packs are the way to go for a v6, my friend has a cherry bomb, and it sounds sick. (Really loud too, youd think it was a v8 until it hits high rpms... )

if you could find a slp muffler resonator it would be loud ass hell. they call it a muffler but its really almost just a resonator. or just get a resonator off something and use it as a muffler that would make it louder.

In response to pitkanen, i should just get a resonator and run it as a muffler?
