I need to change the differential oil on both front and rear pumpkins on my dakota.  I glanced underneath the truck and did not see a drain plug.  Do I have to remove the pumpkin cover to drain the oil?  Also what weight oil should I use.  Thanks for the help!

Yes you have to remove the cover to drain the gear lube out.

I like to use thicker weight lube, i always use 85-140. May just be me but i like it thick.

The service manual calls for 75W-90 in the front and 75W-140 in the rear.
In my opinion, synthetic is the way to go. Try AmsOil, if you haven't already.

Good luck,
-Jeff

don't forget the good old friction modifier additive from crysler for the rear end. really helps with any noise from the posi rear end. if u have one.
