let me start by thanking everyone again for all the help they have provided already in previous threads.

okay...i think my buddy's 99 durango is possibly toast.  it was in a head on collision.  radiator is toast.  block looks fine and runs.  i was debating getting a new radiator and bringing back to life when i noticed the metal clutch fan off of the engine is WOBBLING!!!  i felt the pulley it goes into and there is a little play.

my question:  is the crank bearing bad?  is the engine toast?  (i'm not going to be pulling it).

if so...what do i even do with it?  parts?  junk it?  ebay?

you should check to see if its just the pully. if the main bearings were bad it still would take a little force to even move it. and how much play is there.   .002-.007 inch are the normal acceptable specs.

If it is the pulley that the clutch fan goes into, then that would be the water pump pulley, not the crank pulley.  The crank pulley is where harmonic balancer connects, which is located on the bottom, and if there is play on that one then you have a larger problem.  If it is the other pulley in question, then you may just need to replace the water pump.  Might want to take a better look and possibly post a couple of pictures with a reference to the location of the pulley in question.

Hey dude,

If I remember right this is a 4.7L. Don't worry possum, Justin is right. The fan and pulley are gone and maybe the water pump. The first thing i would do is rip into it. It is all ready broken. You can't do it any more harm.

Please post the pics?
