the niteshade came in and it got put on today...maybe some of you remember, i had covers but recently they flew off while driving. anyway, i did the cargo light and both tails. i scuffed them up a bit then did a few coats, lightly wet sanded did a few more coats, then lightly wet sanded again and applied the final coat. total there are 7 coats, 4 of them are light to medium coats of niteshade and the other 3 are clear. let me know what you think

thanks guys. and yes, it gets applied to the exterior of the lamp. prep is key with this, i know a few people who just dusted the lights and sprayed and it turned out like crap. take the time (just takes a few minutes) to wipe with alcohol and scuff them up. but like i said, most people dont go as dark as i did so its up to you. youll see after just one light layer they look 10x better

here are some pics from this morning. most of the time in the day you can see red coming through. im glad i went as heavy as i did. i didnt want that. anyway here are some before i head out of town for the rest of the day and all of tomorrow

They do indeed look awesome. I would like to try that as well. I think I'll try it on my black m/c first though--Night Runner version of a Ninja I guess!

I cant wait to do mine. I wanna just get my black on silver job done. But what I dont get is I know your supposed to sand it to get the paint to stick, but doesnt it make the surface all gritty and stuff? Like with people who paint thier grills, but how come it ends up all shiny and smooth and stuff, I just never understood it.

hey buddy! been a while since ive seen you on here. im on a lot but dont post nearly as much, it seems a lot of the crew has left or barly post anymore. and thanks i appreciate it. how long did it take? well it depends how fast each layer dries which depends on the temp and humidity along with how thick and how many layers you do. i spent about 4 hours out at the shop just drinkin some beer, listening to music, and talkin with some college buddies i had over. it probably could have been done faster, but then again like i said, most people go with half the layers i did and i did lose track of time with the good company i had. and to tell you the truth, i havent had a chance to buff them like i said i was going to do. i got busy. tomorrow i should have time to take them off, and to tell you the truth, i may try sanding the clear with 1000 grit and buffing it. if i make a small mistake ill sand even and spray another layer or 2 of clear, no problem. honestly, it probably doesnt need sanded and could get away as it is or just buffed but im pretty anal about my stuff. if you look in my night pics above, you can see one of my license plate lights is dim, so i ordered and just got new leds for that. check out vleds.com they make some that shoot 90 degrees and is perfect for the license plate. ok im off subject now. ill let you know tomorrow if i can get it quite as smooth and glossy as the paint and i will take pics too. but honestly, its pretty glossy with that clear on. without its more of a satin, i wouldnt go so far as to say flat, def more satin. but i def wanted to seal it with something, and clear is perfect, it glossed it up a bit more. so tomorrow, i will try to get it as smooth and glossy as the paint, and i will take daytime brake pics for you guys.

as to where to buy niteshade. well, it is made by VHT and it has to be purchased online. i got mine from summit racing, i figured they are midranged in price that i found however i knew the name and trusted using them than most other places i found it. here is a link. i ordered 2 cans, it could probably be done with one, but i ordered 2 just in case. i did my tails and my cargo lamp. i used 1 can and maybe 1/4 of the 2nd. i also bought 2 cans of clear at autozone but didnt even finish one, however they were a bit larger.

oh and also, you can tape off the reverse part of the lights if you wish. then before you clear take off the tape and clear the whole deal so it comes out smooth and even. i know people that have done it, however i didnt want to. and like i said, i went A LOT darker than most people. honestly, even after one light coat, it looked 100x better. dont go too thick at one time. take your time and do it layer by layer

hey im sorry i kind of dropped the ball. my dad got busy and called me in to work some these past 2 days and tomorrow (thursday) i have my final doc appt for my finger.. i havent had time to do it like i thought but hopefully by this weekend i will have them done for sure. as for the firehawk, its sittin pretty at less than 9500 orig miles as of right now and is sleeping. shes stock minus tint, the antennea which i had to replace bc it was missing when dropped off at my house, and of course the rubber. and it did come with duels out the back, however my grandfather added the tips. the TOTL (or 2 on the left) exhaust didnt come out till 94 i believe and that became ionic on the hawks although it could have been ordered w/o. i spent the big bucks and bought goodyear eagle f1 gsd3 tires for her. here are some pics guys. and yes i have permission for all of these pics, even the ones from the calendar shoot with the watermark granted these are crappy off internet pics and not nice high resolution, i do have permission.

by the way, sorry for the caps. also, this past year (i believe last july) POCI Nationals was held in tulsa. i was supposed to go and the hawk was going to be featured there. i dont remember why but i couldnt make it. thank god i didnt go, a hotel next door was being renovated and overspray damaged MILLIONS of dollars woth of very high priced collectors vehicles. and not just the exterior but interior as well. i remember hearing about it from a friend that was able to check it out and then later the next evening it was on national news broadcasts. the hawk would have been right in the middle of it. phew

You got a nice hawk there night runner. This is my baby. 99 WS6, T-REX cam, patriot perf. ls6 heads, ls6 intake, lq9 throttle body, volant cai, custom tune, Borla Cat back (but i have cut outs after the hooker long tubes). Not a show car like yours, but really turns heads when people hear this car coming. But your car really looks great man.

Yea im on ls1thech.com, but dont post much anymore. For the past 6+ years ive been in the military i think i have only put 620+ miles on the car. It spends the majority of its time sitting at my dads house. I had it with me when i was stationed in new mexico. So it gets cranked up by my pops and ill drive it around the block a few times when i go home on leave. I would have gotten the electric cut out, but after i saw how easy it is for people to steel it and as often as i drive it. Wasnt a smart choice for me. I love fbody's especially pontiac ones. I think they look alot meaner than camaros.

let me ask you something im thinkin about doin my headlights bc for some reason the POS's are pealing, you can do a light coats of this stuff and it doesnt get too dark right?

Night_Runner
05-29-2008, 11:43 PM
yes. i wouldnt go more than 2 light coats, but i would def clear coat it. however i am not sure i would want to do my headlights. maybe what you could do is dont do any prep work besides wiping it clean, do a light coat or 2, dont bother clearing, sanding ect. and drive around locally one evening. if it doesnt disrupt lighting the road, get some paint thinner, strip it off, and redo it the right way;)

also, it will look much better when done correctly

BAdassR/T
05-30-2008, 04:00 PM
alright just checkin bc i wouldnt mind doing whole light im not too worried about getting pulled over for it, i just need to get it to stop pealing, its BS but what am i gonna do gotta fix it, as for prepping it what do u recomend what grade sand paper?
