I tried the search feature but came up blank.  I know it has been discussed but didn't pay much attention.  Well last night on my way to work the left headlight on my 05 burned out.  Do you have to remove the assembly or can you get at them another way?  Frankly I think whoever designed the set up needs to be shot. Should not be that difficult to replace a frickin light!

you have to pull the headlight out to swap the lights out...   its dumb.   you will need a pretty long torx driver to get in there...  I dont remember what size though.

turn your wheels and pull the fender liner away from the bumper and reach up.  it will scrape your forearm.  igree, what a shit setup.  this will keep you from having to realign your headlights.

Your gonna need the Torx T20 and T27

honestly ive pulled the dam headlights out a million times its not hard at all just take it out save u the trouble........

pop the hood open for light, lay on your back and reach up there. it can be done

ummm, unless there is a major change between the 05 and 06, you cannot lay under the truck and access the headlight housing.  Pulling on the fender lining is a bad idea, it it breaks, (which I have seen happen) your screwed.  The idea of it is to prevent water from  getting in there!!!  I can access my fog lights, and one screw for the headlight housing from under the truck.  Once you remove the headlight housing, you will NOT have to realign the headlights.  There is a seperate screw for that.  It really is a five minute job.  I have done it seveal times, including this past weekend.  Undo the three screw's and pull it out.  Done.  In fact, it took me longer to pull the bulb from the housing connector then it did to remove the headlight and put it back in!!!  I would suggest removing the headlight gaskette that is between the light and the hood seal.  This just makes it easier to work around.  Takes 10 seconds to remove and put back on.

I gotter done.  Attempted to pull the housing but a no go.  Got the three screws out but it seemed to hang up on a top plastic indexing type pin.  Ended up going underneth on my back and replacing.  Not much room to get your arms in there but at least they had the forsight to make the harnesses long.  Not a bad deal I suppose considering got 3+ years from the stock lights.

You have to pretty much pry the headlight assembly out, it's held in by the screws, and the a ball that fits into a smaller ball shaped opening, (good terminology, I know! lol)

It takes a bit of force, I just usually put a towel on the paint, and grab a flathead, and pry it out...

Then I realized I can access them from the underside, man, did I feel dumb...

i can change my bulbs from there....maybe im crazy, but i can do it

Mine must be screwed then, I just looked at it again, and you cannot access the housing or the lamp cables.  They have mine blocked off.  No space, or flexability to prey up there either.

wow you guys are already replacing headlights on 3 year old trucks(or newer) mine are still the origional ones that came in the truck, what do you guys do to them(yes i do use my headlights, actually daily in the morning, and 3-4 time s a week at night on my way home)
o and my headlights are 6 (yes 6) years old

its not about how old/new the truck is... its about bulb use and hours.   bulbs arnt rated for a number of days/years  they are rated for a number of hours.

My primary driving times are at dark or real close to it on both sides of the clock...  

There are also a lot of variants on bulb life.  I for one,  will not drive on a bulb that is dimming.  I replace them when they start to show wear.

If you replaced your lamps right now,  it would be an astonishing difference in light output.

I've actually read that, depending on the hours of use, you should replace your bulbs every year or two. I'm nearing that two year mark, and want to drop some SilverStars in mine, and put in the LED turn signals that have been sitting on my desk for a year now.
