So I've been reading and have found that the fuel filter is built into the fuel regulator which is tucked above the fuel tank. Is that true?

Could I ditch the stock regulator and filter for a remote setup? I can get a fuel pressure regulator from summit and mount it on the frame rail, along with an inline filter... which would both be easily accessible.

Is that a feasible idea?

well so far the hole pump is inside the tank, so you might as well wait till that thing is clogged...

If you apply an inline it has to pull through the filters, pump, and regulator. This puts a lot of strain on the pump not to mention you don't know if the filters are clogged. Your better option is to replace the pump assembly and if you are looking into more pressure then install a second pump/regulator inline. I would just leave it alone.

The other thing you could do is to replace the tank completely and install one with just a pick up and run inline.

If you just had to make a change, this is what I would suggest. Even if you don't replace the tank, you'd have to replace the pump module with one not designed with the filter and regulator internal to the pump...and then run a separate regulator and filter.

I'd ask, though, why are you wanting to switch? Do you have a clogged filter and/or a bad regulator? In my experience with Mopar minivans (same type pump), failures of these parts is extremely rare, and I certainly wouldn't go to the trouble of replacing the parts as a preventative measure.

It was an idea I had when I heard it was such a pain to get to the filter. I liked to do mods to make maintenance easier... but if this is going to be more effort/$ than it's worth then I won't do it. Thanks for the advice guys.
