Ok... I just recently got this truck for my birthday and well not much info I can find by running vin numbers at local dealer in town..

but anyways all they can tell me is this truck 01 dakota sport, crew cab 4.7L v8 was made special for the molson indy back in 01-02 we are not sure.. they remember posters coming in here.. but was not purchased in our city they remember all the hipe.. and thats about it..

but I have a little problem.. the truck is in A-1 shape minus these factory rollbars, light bars which ever yous may wanna call them.. contacted locals to see if we can just order a new set.. and they cannot find them as a factory listed part off our vin... soooooo leaves us either to bend a new set up,   or sand blast these ones as they are rusted and have them sprayed.. but Im scared the red paint will not match the body as the truck is now 7 yrs old..  I have been through the net left right and center to find some info on these trucks and coming up blank..

I do have a magazine here from strada its called.. ( canadian ) and shows other trucks of mine going around one of the molson indy tracks.. either vancouver, montreal, or toronto.. now our local dealer is telling us ONLY 50 of these made and some being blue, red and black..

Which I Now own a red one...

but Id like to find some info on the..

I have looked at thousands of pics and cannot find another one in red.. yes black.. but no info other the what the dealer has told us and the small articale in the magazine I have..

P.s they were used to promote the dodge product at this race as dodge was a big sponser..  and the decal package on the truck is factory..

p.s  please do not mind the black roll bars as I was playing trying to decide if we sand blast and spray what color to go white or black as I do not think Ill get a red that will match now that paint may of faded... I will take a better pic tommorrow and post it.. so you can see with red.. other then what I did to the pic the rest is factory...

all decals.. front back side hood window etc are factory... as well as row bars.. Like I Said I will post better pics tommorrow.. as well as scan the add outa the magazine...

all help would or info would be appreciated...

thanks in advance... DODGEGIRL3603

Welcome to DF... nice truck!  I dont think I've ever seen one like it.  I just sold a 4x4 QC 4.7 not too long ago, sweet truck but needed something that got way better mileage for commuting (170 mi/day)...

anyways, welcome & enjoy the site.

cool truck...as far as the color goes, check the door sticker and it will have the paint code there as well as in the vin number. im assuming that is is a factory dodge color if it was built at the dodge factory. if you can manage to find the paint code in one of those two places, id sandblast and paint the rollbar to keep original parts on that truck since you say they only made 50 of them, thats a pretty special truck. in 2001 they had what sounds like 2 different red paint colors....PR4 - Flame Red, Clear Coat, and, PRV - Dark Garnet Red, Pearl Coat. they also had this, but it sounds like it might be orange to me...PV3/PVL - Amber Fire, Pearl Coat.

here is a link you can request a build sheet and they will send you back everything thats on your truck and it should explain everything. first time i've ever seen one of those as well.

Go to a paint shop and get them to match the color, and whip up a batch, paint it with a gun. That will at-least give you the same color, but cost a bit more but better quality and color!

Thanks everyone for your replys..   as for color match.. Im scared the red is really faded due to sun.. so to match the color with the vin.. Is a no no.. IM thinking...  unless I have the whole truck resprayed and thats not needed.. the pic above does it no justice.. its pooring rain or I would go out and take a pic.. but its blood red.. LIKE really really bright..

but here is the magazine article and the pic...  as for the 50 of them made that is what the dealer told us...

so here is the add and the pic..

Lol so I know with this pic.. its not the only one out there.. I also found a few pics on the net of the black ones.. Not the blue ones though.....

thanks for all the help.. hope yous are finding this as interesting as I am.. LOL

i do detailing for a living...unless your clear coat is flaking or burnt off and there is absolutly no shine to the paint at all, you can bring back that smooth shine that it had when it was new....

depending on how bad it it, and it doesnt look too bad from the pics, i would use a name brand "polishing" compound, NOT "rubbing" compound. rubbing compound is more abrasive than polishing compound. hand apply and machine buff it off, then use a good carnuba paste wax, not a liquid wax. OR, better yet, use a clay kit. maguires is a good brand for that. as far as wax goes, always use carnuba based, not synthetic waxes. carnuba will last over a year if your truck is carported or garaged and out of the sun. if you dont park under cover, id wax twice a year and id use eagle one spray nanowax about every 2 or 3 times you wash it. also, never take it to an automatic wash place, always hand wash, from the top to the bottom. my truck is 10 years old and had been taken care of before i got it so i just improved on what was already there...the paint looks like new on mine except for the few fine wear and tear scratches and i got most of those out just by using polishing compound and good wax products.

if you knew this already, dont mind me, just trying to help...

its some hard work, but you can do it in a day easily with some help, and its cheaper than a new paint job and then your roll bar will match.

Thanks scandal.. the problem is on the roll bars.. the rust is right through.  paint peeling etc.. and thats where the paint match needs to come in.. I was able to snap a pic and you can see in the pic what IM speeking of.. and how the roll bars are from the side....  other then that all paint on the truck is A-1  its clean.. I have been over it prob 3 times since thursday last week when I got it...      Like I said im just scared to take the bars off have them sandblasted and then sprayed the same red and it being off and looking funny is all..

Look at the row bars.. I do believe the only fix as I cannot find new ones and no one in our town is capable of bending me a new set.. with out crimping.....

I really do appreciate all the help..

thanks again.. DODGEGIRL3603

i honestly wouldnt worry about the paint matching...your trucks paint looks awesome, like new, and taking the roll bar off to get repainted shouldnt be a problem unless it isnt a factory color.

if it is a factory color, which im betting it is, then that is a very common color and dodge used that red at least thru 2004 and it will be very easy to match.

if it isnt a factory color, you can take it to a reputable body shop and they can match it with a paint chip off the roll bar itself. they can match paint with computerized color matchers. even if it isnt up to your standards, most good shops will be more than happy to make it right until you are happy.

thanks once again scandal..    its all factory as per above post.. the only things removed from the truck were numbers in rear windows passangers doors and drivers names off bottom.. and the dodge on the front fenders.. other then that.. its 100% factory..   I got a smoken deal on the truck.. or should I say my husband did...   but I love it  lol even with the rust.. I sold of a 94 grand marquis  that was my baby after I got this last week and it was emaculate for the yr... aslo bought that one used... I just like them to look good...

HEHE...   Me bad.. I think im going to call around and get the bars blasted then re sprayed.. see what I can do with the red.. I guess if all else fails and I repsray them red.. and it dont match.. I guess then they are ready for a scratch and shoot....

yeah, shops are good at paint matching anymore...it used to be that a person had to paint the whole car to get a good match...a few years ago i had a camaro that was rearended and was all worried about the paint matching, but it turned out perfect and you couldnt even tell it was hit.

id say just go to a good reputable shop and dont be the slightest bit satisfied until it is perfect in your eyes.

that marquis looks great by the way. i have always thought it would be fun to take an old cop car crown vic and make it hot...all black with dark windows, grill, and wheels...but that is another subject lol

Thanks.. I babyed that car.. it was my first ever car of my own.. in my name.. I got mad one day and went out and bought it.. hubby come home it was sitting in the drive way..   cause he blew up my crown vic.. that was in his name.. LMAO..

but as for the crown vic.. we have a old cop car.. 92..  that is fairly clean as well.. the one he blew up.. and we put a *cough* 360 in it...  few more things to finish up.. but that motor was in our 76 dodge half ton.. only had 60thousand ks on it...when the hubby was in accident so we kept the motor.. and thats what it rests in now.. LOL...

glad to see you take care of your cars...i cringe when i see the kind of people that dont touch a car til something breaks and i shouldnt care since its not even my car lol...

an old high school buddy got a dodge cop car from a police auction for only $750 and made it look like a real cop car with the push bars in front, antennas, and all the other cop stuff...he had a 440 in his, huge 2 inch cop sway bars too! it was very cool
