Is a Stealth right for me?

So I've been looking for a car to upgrade from my S10 because I'm going to college next year and want something different. I recently came across a 1st gen Stealth ES, don't know what year or any details yet but I looked the car over and the only thing I would say it needs is a little interior cleanup and maybe paint. It's going to be on an auction, it was probably a seized vehicle.
Anyways, how would this car be for a college kid? Do they have problems, or need a lot of maintenance? How are they on snow? What does insurance run on them?
I was also looking at a newer Monte Carlo SS that'll be on the same auction, but it'll probably go higher than my budget.

If they are properly maintained, they are as reliable as any other old(er) used car.  From the sound of things, it being an auction car, you won't know the maintenance history of it.  You should figure in a 120k service, which will run you about $1500 for parts/labor.  They handle on snow as well as any other FWD car (ES and RT), depending upon your tires of course.  Read through the buyers guide stickied at the top of the forum for common problems.
