Electric Water Pump - 5/5/2008 3:24:40 PM    jtswkd   Posts: 35 Joined: 6/30/2006 From: Ashland Mo Status: offline So, I am trying to find new ways to increase mpg. I just bought an electric fan and it will be coming Tuesday. I found this onlie and wondered what you all thought of it: http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/search/?Ne=28&N=9262&Nr=AND(universal:1)&V=10110+1607+4294966997&Vh=2005%20Dodge%20Dakota It looks like it just bolts up to your current water pump and rotates the pulley. It comes with a switch but i was thinking i could just wire it up to a switched source in the fuse box. What do you all think? EDIT: just realised the motor would burn up if the thermostat was closed. I read the directions it said you should remove the thermostat. Wouldn't that hurt your engine to run that cool? You would gain some MPG's adn HP from switching out to an electric unit,  BUT and electric fan pulls a lot of juice, and so will that pump...  not to mention the rest of the truck.  Make sure the alt can handle the load you are about to throw at it. _____________________________ 2006 SLT 4X4 Quad cab V8. The only way i see around it would be to wire the motor so it would kick on after the thermostat opens. Too much work and room for error. (in reply to ericemery) Post #: 3

I out in the electric fan from flex-a-lite and got it going good, but i had a question. I put the probe into the radiator fins, but i full like it might fall off during use from vibration or whatever, how did some of you who got that put it in so it wont? can you glue it on or something? i just want a little assurance so my fan kicks on. I could only get it in there a little bit and i am afarid of damaging stuff if i push it in too far. (in reply to turbot_bird) Post #: 6
