I need to buy a trans for my '97 Dakota.  I was going to rebuild this summer, but need a vehicle ASAP.  I was talking to my mechanic and was told there was a major change between '96, '97, and between '97 and '98 the electronics changed.  So here's the deal.  I need an auto trans for a 3.9L V6 3 speed with O/D.  I was told that it could be from a RAM truck or van, as long as it's from a '97 and is only from a V6.  I was also told it had to be a 2WD trans.  I'm in PA Zip 15673.  If you can help, let me know what you're asking.
