I have a 06 dak that has a growl between 45 and 60 mph. Goes away when you back off the gas so me and the dealer assumed it was the rear diff. Well after 3 rebuilds the third with a new diff housing and cage the noise is still there. Not the rear diff making the noise. Has anybody else had this problem or have this growl. Its going back to the dealer next week so Dodges stars guys can have a go at it.

well, if it is 4x4, sounds like the transfer case. try doing it in 4x4 if the sound is still there but noticably louder then the bearings in there are going. if it is 2wd then try going threw the gears to see if it growls. the other thing to try is on a long strech of road bring it up to speed and pop it in neutral. if the sound goes away its the tranny if not then i cant help. also our you sure its not the tread on the tires just humming away?

Its a 2 wheel drive. Pretty sure its not the tires. When I back off the gas, the noise goes away.Just like a bad pinon bearing.

I hear the same noise. I was just getting ready to post. I have the exact same symptoms, from 45-65 I hear a whinning noise from the rear end. I havent taken it yet to the dealership, thought I would change the rear diff fluid but if you say that did not help I may wait. DEFINITELY NOT THE TIRES.

wait until the dodge guys finish with mine. Or take yours in to the dealer. Maybe the techs in your neck of the woods are smarter. I will post what the final fix is for this noise. How many miles are on yours. I am at 33k
