and since my stock intake box sucks up so much dirt from under the car, i decided to put on a cone filter but i wasn't paying $300 just for an intake. so it cost me about $50 total in parts to make my own, using the stock intake tube lol. just went to canadian tire and bought a cone filter.. it has a piece of plastic inside that is like a runner i guess.. i'm assuming it's to help the air "flow" better into the intake. sometimes it has a whistle sound to it but daaamn is that filter ever loud  :o didn't really notice anything power wise but as long as it doesn't get as dirty as the stock air cleaner in as short of amount of time i'll be happy. i was basically changing my air filter every oil change. so heres some pics of the air filter and then some pics of my car this morning..and in the last pic you can notice the tips stick out a bit farther from when i had my resonators cut out

Hmmm...

I would be concerned about too much hot air from the Engine getting into your intake.  No?  Doesn't seem very efficient without an Air Box.  I have lowered my car with the Eibach Pro Kit and don't have any issue with dirt getting into the stock Air Filter.  I have actually only seen one Manufacture of a Cold Air Intake that was significantly better than the Stock Set Up.  Buy the K&N filter for $35.00 and keep on washing it.  Cheap and easy!

(I am so disappointed that the Challenger has the same Set-Up and not the Direct Feed with the Functional Hood Scoop...)

Although it is rumored that the 2009 Model will have the Functional Hood Scoop!

my air filter after about 3000 kms of driving will have a huge black spot on it from sucking in so much dirt and dust. where i live its very dusty. as for the hot air.. i'm not too worried about it. i know a guy that did a test with a digital thermomter and had it inside his intake.. had a set up basically the same as mine, the stock one (on a 92 cavalier) and an actual cold air intake, and the differance in air temps was maybe 3 degrees if that. so i'm not too worried. i'm looking at getting a cheap intake off ebay but i don't know what i'm going to do for sure. i just don't want to have to buy a new filter every oil change.. and supposidly what one guy told me is K&N filters void dodge engine warrenties.. i don't really see that to being true. dodge looked at my intake and said that it won't void my warrenty unless it's the cause of the problem

i'd worry about dirt getting in the opening at the end of the filter.  I bought a K&N cai for $180 of of ebay..new in the box.  The end of the filter is sealed/chrome cover.  It's quiet (no squeeling).  I was going to get one of the $40 ones until I realized that they have that opening at the end.  I want air not dirt in my intake.  Looks nice.

there is no hole in the end of the filter. there is a chrome cap in there and a piece of plastic inside thats probly glued on that makes a whislting sound once in awhile. i ended up taking the filters back anyway. i put my stock intake back on for now since it's going into dodge next week for the airbag light.. again  also i need the money right now so it worked out fine. might buy an actual intake this summer if i can afford it

the k&n has a nice heat shield to isolate it from the heat.  they advertise a 21 hp increase on the k&n site.  looks great in a magnum too.  my mangum r/t is inferno red.  i wouldn't put one in my ram as the hp increase is minimal...waste of money.  i put a drop in k&n in it.

nice ride there dude

thanks. i don't want to pay $300+ for an intake that i will probly only see maybe 1-5 hp at the wheels max. i didn't notice a differance going from the stock to the cone filter on the tube and then back to the stock intake.. the stock intake would suck in cold air which would basically be the same as a cold air intake.. the cold air intake just looks fancier. if you put in a filter made of the same thing as the cold air intakes, it would do exactly the same thing. i can't see it really making much differance at all.
