This is so wierd I just had to ask.  Yesterday morning I was leaving or work, and discovered the drivers side window glass was shattered.  The glass was still in the frame, but appeared to be was pushed out from the inside.  There were no foreign objects, and I could not see that the glass had been hit by anything.  I had driven the truck to work the day before, and had parked the truck around 6:00 PM.  Temperatures were around 96 degrees, and decreasing.  Not a big deal for repair ($165), but the only thing we could think of was a defective glass, which seems unlikely.  I just wondered if anyone else had this experience, or if it was just an anomoly.

First I have heard of it...  kinda crazy to me.   Glass can break if its VERRY cold and you toss on hot water,  but I havent heard of it going the other way around.

In theory heat could cause pressure to build up in the interior and blow out a window if the car is tightly sealed.  I think most vehicles have vents to prevent build up of cabin air pressure though...

I know I have heard of a few 3rd gen rams that just randomly shattered, if it is under warranty I would take it in...

Just drill a big hole somewhere to relieve the pressure... no seriously don't do that. Ask a dealer about it.

The cabin vents are located on the rear wall of the cab, behind the rear seatbacks (on the quad cabs anyway).

I would think that ought to be reported to the NHTSA http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ by the person who had it happen.  If it is a relatively common problem due to a bad batch of tempered glass, it could cause accidents.

For example:  My first thought would be "SNIPER!!!", followed by 100 mph crazy driving to escape.  That is where the accident would happen.

The ext. cabs are the same. There are vents in the rear wall.
