Well I have been a man on a mission lately sending out some emails to a few people and I have actually gotten responses from STS Turbos but I also got a response from the SRT Team at Dodge.  I requested that they at least consider making an SRT Dakota for us Dakota owners who want a solid performance pickup without the full-size of the Ram.  I made sure to tell them we haven't had one since the 5.9L R/Ts went out in 2003.  Perhaps there is some light at the end of the tunnel afterall.

I’m sorry at this time there are no plans for 2008 but I will forward your email to consider for the 2009 schedule.

Thanks,
Kathy

Thats right she said "consider" so hopefully this turns into something for us.  Maybe it wouldn't hurt again for some other people to start sending some emails also so they know that I am not the only person asking although I am pretty sure that I did mention this website as a reference to them.

Yeah I agree with you but we gotta keep bothering them about it or else they are just going to keep ignoring us Dakota owners and keep treating as 2nd class to Ram owners.

the funny thing is, dodge came out with a srt-4 caliber pushing 285 hrspwr. the only way they will build a srt dak is to put a 4 or 6 banger in it

I highly doubt they will build a SRT Dak anytime soon.  Cerberus is busy trying to get the company out of the red and turning profits again, hopefully they can undo the damage Mercedes did.

The problem with Dodge is price and value.  Dodge vehicles are typically more expensive than competitor vehicles and tend to not hold their value anywhere near as well as Ford, GM, or some of the Japanese auto makers.  Look at my Dakota for example, I bought it for 16k when the MSRP was 20k in February of 2007.  It is now worth 11k in a year's time with the stock factory options. Dodge needs to be more competitive price wise and start focusing on quality which I believe they are attempting with the lifetime warranties.  Dodge also needs to build more fuel efficient vehicles, which they have started to do also.  I think that things will get better for chrysler, they have been through hell and high water before and made it out okay with a little help so I think that they will make it through tough times again.  I think Mercedes brought a good image to Chrysler but I think they were just too preoccupied with themselves to try and keep Chrysler more competitive with other domestic and foreign automakers.

The one thing that appeals to me about dodge is they have always had the attitude that performance comes over fuel mileage. But it seems now the performance is slacking and they havent raised the fuel mileage eather.

Well the Dak would probably sell better if they'd actually market it.  I haven't seen one Dodge commercial with the new 08 Dak in it yet.

Playing a little Devil's advocate here...how often do you see any small/mid-sized trucks marketed heavily? I rarely, if ever, see ads for the Colorado, Canyon, Tacoma, Ranger, or Frontier....so I don't think it's just our truck. All the ads are focused on the full size trucks, because they make more money on them.

We'll never see a SRT Dakota...at least not in the near future. It's not cost effective for them to design and try to fit a big engine in a truck that very few people would actually buy, because they can't afford to throw fuel in it.

I will pass along your suggestion to our Product Planning area for their consideration. As you probably know many of our products and

changes in our products have come from surveys and letters from our customers. Products have included Chrysler P/T Cruiser, Dodge
Ram, Chrysler minivans, Charger, Challenger, SRT  models and more.

In addition, To best capture your thoughts, please visit our www.ChryslerListens.com website and click on the "Tell Us What You Think" ribbon. You'll be taken to a page specifically meant for this type of customer input that will be forwarded to the departments most interested in hearing from you.
Additionally, you can submit your name on this site to become part of the Customer Advisory Board.

Thanks again for your feedback.

Don

I hope this is a step into the customer getting more in touch. It may be small but hell I went to that link they gave me in the email chryslerlistens and submitted more suggestions along with the SRT to includea message to Mopar for a turbocharger even...Also you guys should sign up for the Customer Board thing they got. Hopefully if we get enough people to voice it out maybe they'll see a little light in it...

Yeah I read an article that named the dakota on a list of vehicles chrysler is planning on giving the axe to (along with the sebring and avenger).  Bunch of BS if they do.  The Dakota is the only truck of its size with a V8, and has been in the market since 87'   It would just be sad to see it go because Dodge doesn't even try to market the Dakota.
