you may want to search for it, its a common question
but simply, you can get to the bulb from behind the fender, reach under from the engine bay

If you look between the turn signal piece and the headlight piece there is one little star bolt. I think its a t15. Anyway, if you take that bolt out the turn signal piece will swing out of the headlight assembly and you can get to the 4 bolts that hold the headlight in. The passenger side isn't too bad to do with the headlight still in the truck, but the passenger side is definately easier done this way than taking the battery out.

I've replaced my headlight bulbs and didn't have to take the headlights out.  Seemed like I just disconnected the connector and give the bulb a 1/4 turn and it came out of the headlight assembly.  Not sure if that is the proper way, but it worked for me.

I changed the headlights in my '97 also, no disassembly or battery removal required.  It's just a quarter turn of the retaining ring like mplue said and they slide right out.

look inside the fenders behind the headlights and disconnect the wires(plug in)
rotate the ring countor clockwise
and when you get the ring off
wiggle the bulb and it comes out without turning it

another reason rams are the best trucks...cause when the sun is behind you, the shadow cast in front of you looks like shrek. and shrek is gangsta

if you have small enough hands  you can take them out from the inside by reaching through the small hole near the fender.  I couldnt even get half of my hand in there so I had to take the whole damn thing off.  Now it points furter towards the ground than it should.....stupid thing

I would have to say that I have big hands, and just couldn't handle the small spaces haha
I put my HID's in on my lunch break one day, and that was with pullin the driver's side headlight assembly out
