If you drop both resonators you will noty have enough back pressure and will hurt fuel mileage.

I have an 08 TRX with a 4.7 and I've been wondering what I can do with my stock exhaust to help flow, possibly give it a bit better sound, and maybe even help with fuel mileage. I didn't know which might be the best option to go with. Either dropping out the muffler and going with a straight pipe replacement, or dropping both resonators and keeping the stock can in place. On my 05 I had both resonators removed and it did give it a bit better sound, but I don't think it helped at all with mileage. I don't know if dropping the muffler and only running the resonators will make it too loud or not, which isn't something I particularly want. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

"then again its not a auto either... so I can make that bitch fly if I want." +1 By now it's like saying the pledge of allegiance...you just have it memorized: Free flow exhaust Free flow intake Performance Fluids Electric Fan Fastman Throttle Body Some are still debated ; some guys swear by power wires (fools the computer into thinking incoming air is colder than it is) ; some love their underdrive pulley kits. Others not so much. Thats about it for the lowly Dakota. Lack of backpressure hurting fuel mileage is a load of crap. The less effort the engine wastes on pumping out exhaust the better. Just get a Magnaflow or Flowmaster or Cherry Bomb or whatever and you'll be fine. The 3.7 sounds halfway decent for a V6.

Its obveous by your name that you have an 07. So the chances that you will buy a V8 engine and drop it in, or buy a whole nother dakota for the V8 would be slim to none, lol. I have the V6. I don't have any performance mods, just a small lift and larger tires. The V6 is a bit under powered for the size of this truck, so some basic bolt ons may do wonder's for a little extra power. I wouldnt spend TOO much money in this department however, because with this kinda stuff you never get your money back. I would do a K&N intake/AEM intake, and a decent exhaust. THATS IT. I wouldnt mess with the JET chip thats junk. No offense to anyone, but its a paper weight. The JET line has always been BS and is frowned upon in the enthusiast community. A few people have them on there dakota because its the only option. (And its the only option because it took no research and development to make) Intake, exhaust, enjoy. Im sure you can grab a realistic 15hp total between the two right? (which is pretty cool all considering) Prob sound pretty good too. Other then that everything else is a waste of money IMO. This truck is not a good starting point for performance. Whether it has the V8 or the V6. I mean...not to be Mr. Negative, but you can get yourself an SRT-4 Neon for like 15k these days, drop 5 grand into it, and have yourself 300hp+. I did it a few summers ago with my friends.
