Cold Air Intake feedback - 4/28/2008 12:03:45 PM    chargedviper   Posts: 15 Joined: 4/7/2008 Status: offline Hey all, i know this has been talked about already but i am looking for specifics. I have been looking at getting a cold air intake for my charger se plus (3.5 liter) but am wandering is it worth it? I don't care so much about the extra hp if any (but it would be good also) but mostly for a little better fuel mileage. But then you almost need to change exhaust as well. I am thinking of getting a mopar cai but i have heard that there exists different kinds like a cold air intake and then a short air intake (Ram Air). I also heard that ram intake sucks in heat but then i would not want a cai which would suck water into my engine. The dealer said they can get a mopar cai for around $522 and i wander if it's actually a ram air or cold air intake even though i asked for a cold air intake. As i understand as well a ram air sits on top while cold air intakes are setup going towards the bumper or something. Also in winter would it not suck snow in or do you change over to the factory? We have around -42 degree weather out where i live in winter. Sorry i really don't know much about these but perhaps any person with knowledge can educate me. Thanks, Patrick Post #: 1

Also i hear ram air intakes which most of these seem to be actually suck some heat do they not or does a shield actually help? Oh and winter will snow not easily get in there and sucked in? We get lots of snow out here in Canada. One last question (i promise) i cannot afford to purchase both a cai and change my exhaust but would it still be worthwhile just getting a cai?  I guess it would be better then what i got now from factory. I would doubt that snow/water would get sucked into the your throttle body from the intake.   Not that it couldn't happen but the CAI would have to be very close to the ground. The CAI pipe runs up hill so any water that enters the system also has to work against gravity even with the suction of the intake I would doubt you would get harmful amounts of water into the engine. Most people start modding by adding a CAI then move onto the exhaust so your on track with your decision. I did the same with mine by installing a K&N OEM filter replacement then I upgraded to a CAI then added a CATBack <= not all at the same time but over time. (in reply to chargedviper) Post #: 6
