View Full Version : anyone ever get dyno'd?
derricksmash 04-28-2008, 12:52 AM i'm referring to us 3.7liter owners...
what is the horsepower on our truck @ the wheels? like 120? 180? i have no idea, and wanna go dyno it moreso for the experience than the result.
marv02 04-28-2008, 12:58 AM I don't think the Dyno go's that low for rear wheel H/P Ha Ha.
derricksmash 04-28-2008, 12:59 AM lol...this is true.
but damnit...answer my question about the jet chip...did it make a big difference?
marv02 04-28-2008, 01:05 AM Yes You will feel it There other Threads about this I been involed with In the past Read them You'r truck never be fast But this helps out.
derricksmash 04-28-2008, 01:07 AM i know it won't be fast, but it'll be faster =)
the maxima and the millions of available mods can be fast. then there's the z28 when i need fast =)
marv02 04-28-2008, 01:13 AM Yes it will be faster more HWY power also.
It will not turn 9's 1/4 mile time you get low 10"s Ha Ha You have more get up and go thats for sure improve you 0 to 60 times more power up on the HWY at cruising Speeds helps you hold speed on hills and head winds Ect.
XxSilentHawk99xX 04-28-2008, 02:58 PM Hey derrick, to be honest, the JET Chip Stage 1 is utterly useless...only the stage 2 can really make a difference from what I've read. However, I did get my truck dynoed a few weeks ago before the headers went on...The truck as is ran about 260 hp at 5000 rpms.
derricksmash 04-28-2008, 03:29 PM 260? that's not toooo bad at all. damn heavy trucks.
cramerica 04-28-2008, 10:33 PM Woah woah woah...a 3.7L V6 dynoed 260 HP at the wheels?
marv02 04-28-2008, 10:48 PM Yea that what we all are saying 260 brake HP on a dyno mabe at the crank H/P rating but Brake H/P rating Hum there is a diffrence.
I manafactures give you at the crank H/P ratings, Not at the wheels Brake H/P.
derricksmash 04-28-2008, 11:21 PM maybe he meant 2.60 horsepower
marv02 04-29-2008, 12:12 AM I don't know my self BUT I like to see how they did that I seen engine test cells before where they hook the motor to a water Brake to test at the crank H/P, I seen putting the drive tires on a roller system and test at drive wheel H/P on that type of Brake H/p testing.
There could be a new way to test engine Brake H/P with out removing the motor and putting the motor on a test cell to check it out I know they are using a timming light and counting the strob lights how many times it flashes during the test, Yea thats it.
To get a true H/P rating they normaly hook to a Crank type tester to have a true reading.
Wheel H/P changes thing due gearing Tires Size Ect.
cramerica 04-29-2008, 08:55 AM Even 260 at the crank would be a 23% gain, which is alot more than an exhaust and intake could ever do. Thats +50 HP. I've heard rules-of-thumb for driveline losses usually in the 40-60 HP range, obviously highly dependent on setup. 260 at the wheels is pretty respectable for a Hemi...
And Marv...spelling and puncutation, bro. [:'(]
marv02 04-29-2008, 08:59 AM Yea Yea I know My spelling and puncutation is not the best Thats why I work for our Goverment Ha Ha.
derricksmash 04-29-2008, 12:35 PM puncutation...
^^ that's f-in' awesome...lol
XxSilentHawk99xX 04-29-2008, 12:45 PM haha well, it may have been the hp at the crank, but I think the headers helped the truck a bit...
vaughn35 04-29-2008, 01:13 PM maybe he ment 160 at the wheels
texbigb 04-29-2008, 03:01 PM online it says out trucks spit out 215 hp and 235 lbs of torque...and brake horsepower it 15% more than rwhp...so calculate that...i would guess around 235-240 on the low side..
cramerica 04-29-2008, 03:30 PM Haha I wish I could say that was intentional...guess I should shut up now.
punctuation
cramerica 04-29-2008, 03:33 PM But anyway, the 3.7 is 215 / 235 at the crank.
If you are getting 260 at the wheels you either need to get your money back from the dyno shop, check to see how many cylinders you really have, or write down everything you've installed on the truck and start selling it as the "Best Dodge 3.7 Power Kit Ever Ever Ever"
XxSilentHawk99xX 04-29-2008, 04:44 PM Yeah I just called, that is how much is at the crank, not at the wheels...so ballpark, im guessing around 200 hp...at the wheels.
cramerica 04-30-2008, 07:15 AM So did you have your truck engine dynoed or roller dynoed? Because if they didn't take the engine out of the truck you're getting an estimate on crank HP.
derricksmash 04-30-2008, 10:55 AM ^^ i was gonna say that too, but felt too ill-informed to say it.
XxSilentHawk99xX 04-30-2008, 05:33 PM yeah it was roller dynoed..
derricksmash 04-30-2008, 05:47 PM okay, so now we all know silenthawk is posing as a 3.7 ST owner, when he really has an SRT
=)

XxSilentHawk99xX 05-01-2008, 12:29 PM Hellz yeah! nah, it's gotten better hp, but not too much...I think maybe its time for an STS turbo? muahahaha
