I bought a 91 dakota several weeks ago and it has a high idle no tack but I'm guessing it's hitting 2k most of the time. the engine temp guage doesn't show any movement even after the engine has warmed up so I was guessing the ECT sensor was bad and replaced it but it didn't change anything. If I disconnect the ect sensor it sputters and runs rough so I know it's doing something but I'm still not getting a reading on the temp sensor in the guages which makes me wonder if somewhere along the line the throttle body is left wide open to heat up the engine even if it's already warm. I've already adjusted the idle as low as it will go and the throttle body isn't sticking from what i've seen. It's running a high idle 90% of the time occassionally lower when I turn it off and restart. Any ideas I'm just trying to troubleshoot and from what i've looked at I don't know what else it could be to keep a consistent high idle unless it's a computer issue. is there something in between the ect and the comp that i can check? Thanks

Most likly it is a IAC Idle Air Contrl valve. They tend to get stuck. Try taking it off, cleaning it up. Make sure it moves freely. If you cant get it movin, just buy a new one. If you need to find out where it is look it up on this parts mauel.

Thanks a lot guys I assumed that the iac valve was fine since I saw some movement in the idle adjustment srew but that's what turned out to be the problem. I still don't have any register of temp on my guages but the ect sensor must be sending something to the comp b/c it's working fine now.
