Ok guys, I know I have seen on here before about after market radios and the factory amp and speakers but cant find any thing when i search. do i need to bypass the factory amp, the ohms are diffrent right? any who i thinking about getting that little VR3 indash gps/dvd player VRVD640G from walmart for $388.00. It may be a POS but I played with it at walmart today and it seem pretty cool.

Order from Crutchfield.  Comes with everything you need to wire in an aftermarket head unit.  I bought a JVC HU from Crutchfield and used the factory amp and speakers.  Way better than the factory radio.  This unit was $159.95 minus $30.00 off for a total 129.95 with all wiring and hardware with free shipping.

I don't know if it works with anything other than the Infinity system but before I got around to installing my system I had my VR3 HU running through the factory amp.  Apparently the Infinity amp uses speaker-level inputs because it worked fine.  I just wired an OEM harness adapter to the HU harness and plugged it in.  But if you don't have the Infinity system I don't know if this will work or not.  And it may not be a good thing to do period - all I know is that it worked for me for about a week until I got time to do my full install.

On the VR3 headunit:  The only reason I don't have the GPS model yet is because as far as I can tell it doesn't have bluetooth.  The VR3's are cheap but I wouldn't consider them POS units.  I have always sworn by Alpine or Kenwood HU's but after seeing one of the VR3 FM modulators I really got into the idea of having my MP3's on SD cards.  I have the VR500CS-BT.  Nothing fancy about it, but it has USB, SD, and bluetooth built in for $150 - about the price of just the bluetooth option for the other brands.

The closest thing to a complaint I have about this HU is that the line-level output has a lot of hiss at low volume.  A couple other minor things are if you are using CD, SD or USB and shut the unit off it doesn't remember it's location in the song and restarts at the beginning, and sometimes it locks up on certain mp3 files and reboots itself.  But it only does this on certain files.  I guess it's the way the file is formatted but I've never really taken the time to figure it out.  Other than that I haven't had any problems after about a year of everyday use.

Good luck on whatever you decide to go with.
