The dealer says that everything is fine, ha, but I have an issue with the transmission in my 2004 Durango. It seems like the tranny downshifts too much and way too easily. I can be driving along at 45 MPH on a back road and the grade shifts slightly uphill. Without really needing to, in my opinion, the tranny will shift out of OD and into D.

Also, when turning into an uphill driveway at work, semi steep, it will sometimes shift all the way down into L.

At first my dealer said that the fluid was low, but I just had it in for service before my 70K warranty ran out and they said everything was fine....no codes.

Is that all the mechanics at the dealers can do anymore??? Read the codes and follow the instructions???? What ever happened to knowing how things worked and troubleshooting the problem?

What engine do you have?

If you happen to have the 4.7L with the 3.55 gears, downshifting is part of that combos personality. The 4.7 just does not make a lot of torque at lower rpms, as is usually the case with an OHC motor.

How many miles on your D??? When was the last time you put plugs in it?? The OEM ones (all 16 of them) are only good for 30k or so.

I bought the D in 2006 with 34K on it. Right now I have 72K on the odometer. To my knowledge the plugs are factory.

Why would the plugs affect the transmission shifting??

Tranny filters can cause an issue as well, maybe they screwed something up when they changed the fluids.

Having bad plugs willindeed affect several aspects of your D's operation. If the gaps are large due to excessive wear, the engine cannot make power. When the computer sees that the engine cannot do what you are asking in the current gear, it will signal the tranny to shift down to provide more rpms to increase power and hopefully handle the task at hand."Capeche"
