View Full Version : Gas Mileage
SBaxley 04-22-2008, 06:24 PM I just put on a set of 20 inch wheels/tires on my durango. Now my gas mileage has dropped nearly 3 miles/gallon. The Durango is a 4.7L, all wheel drive, 3.92 ratio diff and the 5 speed/OD auto transmission. I am not sure if the 20's can stay on the car with the way gas prices are climbing.
Wishbone 04-22-2008, 07:38 PM That's not uncommon. Change your gears and recalibrate your speedo for your computer and you should get some of that back.
Joeecko 04-23-2008, 06:37 AM Should of stuck with some nice new 18 inch to replace the ones that were on there.Plus you will have some tires to ride on with 18"S..........
superdak05 04-23-2008, 11:58 PM i just pulled my 20's off of my 05 dak, 4.7 lost about 7 miles to the gallon overall. truck did not like the extra rolling resistance. went back to the factory 16's and got alot back.
Joeecko 04-24-2008, 11:18 AM you guys with these big ass rims they look good but perform like crap on off road,I guess there just to look at.there also hell to ride in the city..........................
SBaxley 04-24-2008, 01:49 PM The rims ARE there to look at!! This Durango is the family cruiser not a off road beater.
I have 20's on my 03 Ram and that truck is getting 18+ mpg so it seemed safe to assume that the Durango would not suffer...guess not. Thanks guys.

You have to remember the Durangos are awd so it's putting power to all 4 of those beefy monsters.
Your welcome to come up here and drive my 5000# go-cart!
After that tell me if it is all show no go![sm=gears.gif][sm=gears.gif][sm=gears.gif]

Enjoy!
OK!, but what does that have to do with gas mileage?
...that you will use a lot of gas and have bad mileage!
Only way to save gas is to stay below 2000 rpm and 65 mph.

We have Durango's! We already use lots of gas:D[8D]
You make a good point about saving gas. However, how many drivers, who tend to modify the vehicle, have the discipline to do that. We tend to like to step on the go pedal so that we can hear the "symphony" under the hood;)
Joeecko 04-28-2008, 10:39 AM i'VE DONE SOME OFFROADING AND AND LET ME TELL YA THE DURANGO 07 DOES PRETTY GOOD.GUESS YOUR RIM SIZE DEPENDS ON TASTE AND WHAT YOUR GOING TO DO WITH YOUR DURANGO.I GET ABOUT 18 MILES HWY AND 16 CITY
Im planning on getting 22's, and I have a 08 D 4.7Liter Engine 4x2, does my gas milage its gonna be that bad, just because I have 22 inch rims ?. More less, how much gas milage its gonna be when I get my 22' inch wheels ? ...
About the issue that everyone says, that 22's suck at offroad and etc, thats obviously .. because everyone that gets 22's they are not planning on doing off road, its just a cosmetic matter ... to show off. And in the city, I think they'll go pretty fine ...
Al.
I would guess about 1.5-2 mpg's less...
The additional weight of the wheel's is killing mileage!
Ohh I see ... thats fine ... I can handle that ...
Abqhemi 05-17-2008, 10:36 PM I put some 22's on mine and it killed the milage. I'm hard pressed to get over 10 in the city and I could barely get 15 on the freeway. They were 305/45-22 Nitto 420s that came off my truck. Tires were too tall and too heavy. I'll def get some shorter tires if I ever do put some 22's on there permanent.
