I've got an 2005 Dakota and looking at the new bed rail system that has come on the 2008 Dakota's.

The only problem is I already have a tonneau cover installed on my truck.

Have any of you guys who own an 2008 Dakota with the rail systemon have a tonneau cover put on your truck or know if a tonneau cover can be put on with this new rail system?

Or is it not possible to get these rails put on with a cover?

Thanks

I just purchased a 2008 Dakota, but, I did not get the bedrail tie downs and I
know that they will not work with my Extang cover because of the brackets.
I have attached a picture of the bedrail if that helps. There is another thread
about someone selling a set on Ebay

You are right getting a tonneau/bed cover and keeping the cargo rails on was a challenge. Extang won't fit..I called them and they say they are working on a new cover in a couple of months, same with Undercover......nothing yet. However the Advantage Torza will fit and clamps to the bed rails. So that is the cover I bought and am very happy with it.

I just had it done to my wife's 2008 TRX4. It has the bed rail system in it and just had a color matched fiberglass tonneau cover put on it. It is made by a company called "Ranch" and they even supplied the tail gate cover to replace the "spoiler that the truck came with. The truck conversion/customizing place that installed it checked with just about every manufacturer out there and Ranch was the only one they found so far that makes its cover to fit the bed rail system. Your only other option is to go through a dealer and get Mopar's color matched tonneau cover. It also fits the bedrail system but I don't know who makes it for Dodge.

The tonneau cover is painted with OEM Dupont paint that has a lifetime warranty as does the tonneau cover itself. I have an A.R.E. tonneau cover on my 2007 Toyota Tundra and I can definitely say that the Ranch tonneau cover looks every bit as good as the A.R.E. In my opinion, the Ranch has a better locking mechanism than the A.R.E.

Ok guys,

here is a photo of my current situation.

My cover is an Access Brand Roll Up Cover. The rails are the rails that are for sale on Ebay and I was gonna throw in a bid, but Im not sure if the rails would be able to clamp on to the inside of my current tonneau cover rails on the inside of the bed or not.

I was hoping it would, but by the looks of it I might be SOL, anyone got suggestions as if to if it would work or not?

Thanks!

You might be able to sandwich that plastic piece of the cover that's currently being held on by the clamps in-between the bedrail and the accessory rails you want to buy then screw the rails to the truck effectively securing the cover. Not sure how the rails are supposed to be installed though.
