Alright guys and gals I figure I may well start asking it on here What is it going to take to make the 3.9 MPI flex fuel capable I know that all the rubber fuels lines with teflon or butryl, but what else would needs to be done. I know higher compression is better higher fuel pressure are best. Well theSBEC need some reprograming? The reason I ask is my wife bless her soul has switched from darkness of the blue oval, to a brand new 08 Dodge Ram 1500 Big Horn with the flex fuel 4.7 and 6 speed manual.

it is not worth the time and money to put into it in my opinion. e85 may be cheaper but you get worse milage so you would not really save any money. just my opinion.

yeah I know about the worse milage. My wifes truck will only average 9 city 11 hiway.

Not so much, unless of course, the government/President withdrawls its bills for the manditory ethanol production.
It's just where we currently get our ethanol base is, as I have heard, one of the least efficent plants: corn.

This is a list of where we got our oil. Saudi Arabi, Nigeria, Venezuela are in the top 5. All fine countries, right?

People always complain that America "lags behind" the rest of the world in stuff now days (where we once led the world). Maybe its because people don't accept change. There are many countries that are welcoming alternative fuels/rewewable sources of energy. They still have warmed/cooled houses, still get around, etc etc.
I will also blame this on corporations who won't spend the few bucks and start producng things like electricity from more alternative fuels/renewable energy.

I was looking at the owners manual on my '95 and it mentions e-85 as an acceptable fuel source, but recommends using 87.

I think the future lies with hydrogen if you ask me its exhaust is water and its the most cost effective. E85 is unefficient I have heard it takes something like 5 gallons of water to make 1 gallon of E85 (maybe more I'm not totally sure) and even though it is a little bit cheaper than regular gas the mileage you get from it is terrible.

Agreed but I really don't think we'd be having these troubles if good ol G.W.B hadn't invaded Iraq for no reason. First there was supposed to be weapons of mass destruction, then it was ooo Saddams a bad man we need to catch him, and now its oh al-quieda is in Iraq.Excuse after excuse and as we keep this war going the gas prices are just going to keep on steadily rising because they have all the excuses in the world now to blame price gouging on. Its a different reason every time I see one of those oil company reps on the news too. It always "Oh we had something break at a refinery so its gonna be more expensive" or "Its a time of the year where there is more demand that supply" What do I think? I think its all a pile of bull, and that these oil company reps and execs are sitting on record profits laughing their asses off at how stupid we are for paying their prices. I wish one person could make a difference.

Most of our oil is imported from Canada and Mexico. It takes more than a gallon ofgasoline to produce one gallon of etanol so what sense does that make. I'm just saying.
